Review: Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360)

1. Tell me where I used the word "Casual", straw-man. You assume that the potential gaming audience is divided into polarities. I don't.

2. Who am I to say? About as qualified as you.

Thanks for playing.

Review: Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360)

Mmmm... nothing quite like the smell of typical gamer indignation.

Keeping the review in context, the point of having differing difficulty modes is to offer different types of players an opportunity to experience and learn the game in progressive steps. What we have here with L4D2 is a game that remains prohibitive to potential new players as there is no learning curve, just a learning wall. Also, some people might want to run a quick campaign with a few friends without having the nerves of their index fingers ejected through the skin by the time they finish.

Remember, people: Not everyone spends at least five hours a day playing a single game to perfection. L4D2 wasn't made for the "Cores"; it was made for people who might want to buy and play it, and you're only a fraction of that demographic.

Good review, Chris. Love the game, but good review.

What defines a 'casual' game?

Pardon the sycophantic overture, but your comment deserves a Trophy Cookie. Or a Cookie Trophy. Whichever's tastier.

How's the mainstream supposed to appreciate gaming's artistic potential if its own supporters can't?

Not that I regarded the cause as worth pursuing either way, but I'll be reminded of this and Invaders! fiasco next time some sweaty zealot with a Master Chief tattoo gets all frothy when Roger Ebert decries the cultural legitimacy of interactive media.

It's an absurdist extension of the "Hitler Was a Vegetarian" lore. I laughed, but then again, I'm not a vegetarian and don't really take my diet (nor myself) all that seriously.

Joystiq impressions: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

See, that's what I was thinking. The subtitle of the game would seem to indicate that your recollection of certain characters and events would be altered depending on what kind of psych profile you exhibit... man.

I admit to being somewhat apprehensive towards this title when it was announced but now, I'm pretty keen on seeing what they can do with this angle.

...are there two Cybils in this? That one looks quite a bit different than in other screenshots I've seen.

He's talking about the first game. The one that everyrube on the internet, up until today, had a huge boner for.

Hold up...

If I'm a pirate, why would I give even a hint of a shit about this?
