Xbox One sticking with $499 price, Kinect still 'core part' of experience

Games shipping this week
Aug 7th 2006 11:12AM (Joystiq)It's a blatant San Andreas clone, only with a much better interface and combat.
But San Andreas was boring to me. The entire playstyle has become stale, in my eyes.
And the ghettoness is absurd. But not absurd enough. The game is ridiculous, with terms like "homies" and lots of over-the-top violence, but not absurd enough. It's like it couldn't commit to being parody or being dead-serious. Too over-the-top to be serious, not funny enough to be parody. Like the things the random citizens say on the streets? Idiotic, but not funny.
I had a bit of fun playing the demo, no doubt, but overall felt the tone sucked, the setting sucked, I'm sick of being a poor, classless thug in a street gang, and I'm just tired overall of doing the same thing.
EA does give a sh-t about System Shock 3, says PC Gamer UK
Aug 7th 2006 10:47AM (Joystiq)So, when EA does this, you guys condemn it.
Meanwhile everyone seems desperate for Diablo 3 even though its creators are making the real successor in Hellgate: London (which actually looks kind of bad.)
Is it that you guys hate EA, or that you only realize there's a difference in creative forces when the name changes?

Aug 7th 2006 10:15AM (Joystiq)It's pure page 6 BS, referring to things that no one could possibly know in an attempt to get people talking. Things that may or may not be made up.
Obviously it shows the spy doesn't approve of the decision, and I doubt many people will, but it's still a pointless way of expressing himself.
Details on the '08 Malibu are sketchy at the moment
Aug 7th 2006 9:36AM (Autoblog)My cousin's brother in law was a UAW member in the early 80s. He gleefully tells stories about how they'd do their passive aggressive fighting. He used to tell us how they'd fight back if their manager cut their break short - for every five seconds the break was cut they'd mess up one vehicle on the line. If the manager gave them 14 minutes instead of 15 the next 12 cars would be a lemon.
While you can doubt that this happened, and you can certainly make a strong point that it doesn't happen any longer, it's probably a good reason why we're here today. Along with various gas crisises, poor management, bad engineering, and a general misunderstanding of what the American public wants to drive.
Microsoft: We will pwn Santa!
Aug 4th 2006 5:15PM (Joystiq)The 360 is getting destroyed in Japan, we all know this. It's got no chance.
Microsoft: We will pwn Santa!
Aug 4th 2006 5:15PM (Joystiq)But the PS2 really only killed it in three months, two of which were holidy months. It's unfair to compare those, as the 360 would have sold much better had the supply been there.
Had the 360 been in proper supply for Christmas it would probably be within 300,000 or 400,000 of the PS2.

Aug 4th 2006 5:11PM (Joystiq)300,000 a month is selling. It's selling at a faster pace right now than the XB did. Selling about twice the pace of the GC. Both those consoles were at about the same point as the 360 at this time, but they had a much, much bigger holiday season as there were no significant shortages.
So how about the PS2?
In it's 8th month the PS2 sold 297,000 units.
In it's 8th month the 360 sold 291,000 units.
Not bad, right? 6,000 off from the PS2? The 360 is about 7,000 off from the PS2, but it didn't have as big of a holiday season. Counting the massive shortage, it's actually keeping decent pace with the PS2. By no means right with it, but only a month or so behind.
Remember, the PS2 sold 2 million units its second Christmas, despite being up against the GC and XB. I don't think the 360 will pull that off. But 1.3 million seems reasonable.

Aug 4th 2006 4:44PM (Joystiq)Man, I wish the GC was selling that much.
vgcharts.org for last month:
DS - 623k
PS2 - 328k
360 - 291k
PSP - 221k
GBA - 198k
GC - 54k
360 isn't doing wonderfully, but it's doing well enough.
If the PS3 was out now don't kid yourself, it wouldn't be doing much better. It would have cannibalized some of the PS2 sales, but overall the price, the software shortage and the time of year would be keeping it fairly low as well.
It's the summer. There's no holiday incentive to buy a console. Games come out slower. And less time is spent at home. The DS and PSP get a boost - kids can play it on vacations or at summer camp. Consoles take a dip. We'll look at June 07 a year from now, I imagine the PS3 will be selling within 100k of the 360 did this month.

Aug 4th 2006 4:31PM (Joystiq)Again, look at this realistically.
The 360 sold out last Christmas, right? And it was then in very short supply until April, right? And it's sold several million since April, despite no holiday season.
So come Thanksgiving the 360, no longer in short supply, will sell like hotcakes. It will be in stock, but it will be moving fairly quickly.
Now let's look at the PS3. It's coming out the same time the 360 did, but a year later. It will probably also be in short supply. It will probably sell out during Christmas and remain sold out for several months.
There is virtually no chance the PS3 will pass the 360 by next summer. Why? Because they won't have made enough units. The 360, on a conservative estimate, will hit 11 or 12 million units sold by next summer.
The PS3 will not have produced that many.
So you like Sony a lot and dislike Microsoft, that's fine. You think the PS3 will be the better console, and you very well may be right.
But simple supply and shortages will likely keep the PS3 behind the 360 for at least a year.

Aug 4th 2006 4:26PM (Joystiq)The 360 will be decimated this holiday season... "
Again, you're completely tainted by your Sony zeal.
1) The PS2 will outsell the PS3 this Christmas.
2) The 360 will outsell the PS3 this Christmas.
This has nothing to do with popularity and everything to do with supply. The PS3 will not be in supply. I posted this, but never got email confirmation - the PS3 will be lucky to get 1 million units on US soil for Christmas. Best case scenario will be two million, and that's being pretty hopeful. I could be wrong, but I doubt it - new systems are always in short supply for Christmas, and Sony is doing a worldwide launch.
The PS2, being in supply, cheap, and having lots of software, will sell a ton.
The 360, being in supply, cheaper than the PS3, and having lots of software, will sell a ton.
The PS3 and Wii, being in short supply, one very expensive, and having limited software, will sell every single unit they get to shelves but there won't be many of those.
It will be a 360 Christmas by default, as far as next-gen goes. The PS2 and DS might very well outsell it.
10 million before the PS3 launches? Doubt it. 10 million before New Year's Eve? Possibly.
