Activision: Call of Duty Elite capacity increasing to serve user rush

Center yourself briefly with a Leela demo ... then try Rabbids
Nov 2nd 2011 5:58PM (Joystiq)Yes, let us rally against the games that make it glamorous in the eyes of the player to be shot, blown up and otherwise maimed in battle. Because playing a video game is an absolute direct correlation to actually serving in the military.
When did I say ANYTHING about the game that Mr. Chopra was putting out? I wasn't aware that merely stating the rhetoric that one would hear first-hand (although the last sentence was a bit of satire) from Mr. Chopra's camp would illicit such a response. Interesting.
I'm surprised you aren't on a personal crusade against all military shooters, because your ONE comment is certainly doing a lot.
Then again: logic.

Epic wants Unreal Engine 4 ready for the next-gen console launch
Oct 28th 2011 11:14AM (Joystiq)Ah! I didn't think about Steam. The only problem I have with pulling data from that is that I'd figure that the vast majority of purchases for Arkham City will be made for one of the consoles, and that's what I'm really curious to see. BUT, it'd be interesting to see the data on Steam to Retail purchases for AC on the PC.
Something I'd like to see end altogether so it wouldn't factor in to the purchase data: pre-order bonuses. That's probably never going to go away though...

Oct 27th 2011 11:36AM (Joystiq)"But I also like to make my own decisions and not let the "market" dictate my opinion" in such a short amount of time. (is how that should have read, oops)

Oct 27th 2011 11:33AM (Joystiq)Oh, I noticed it. But I also like to make my own decisions and not let the "market" dictate my opinion. Netflix works for me and my family, and saves us about $60 a month in what we'd be paying for Cable TV. Like I've said a few times: it's just my scenario.
"tl;dr" is internet for "too long; didn't read"
"Also, as you just said, the internet isn't ready for full time DD if Netflix alone hits it so hard" I have no idea where you pulled that from.
Hah! the statistics they have in that thread START from 2008! How large of a sample do you need? Yes, Blu-Ray is gaining ground but the media as a whole is LOSING money.
tl;dr

Oct 27th 2011 11:09AM (Joystiq)I guess I'd just rather see what the data would look like if the option for digital distribution was there for the big titles. Like, if Arkham City was available via brick-and-mortar retailers and XBLM/PSN; how would the sales compare? There's nobody doing it at the moment, it'd just be interesting to see.
My current provider is Cox, and I get 30Mbps/3Mbps for about $65/month. We don't have cable, so we watch a LOT of stuff streaming off Netflix, we rent movies we want to see that are new from the Zune marketplace (maybe 3 a month on average), and I also play a few games with my friends over XBL, and I work in the IT field and move quite a bit of data just from work related material alone... I've never been hit with any kind of overage fee, or noticed a marked degradation of throughput toward the end of the month.
Though, I'll admit, that's just my scenario.

Oct 27th 2011 10:39AM (Joystiq)I don't think the optical disk capacity is a problem. It's just my scenario, but I'd much rather have games have options for purchase. The XBLM should be expanded to sell AAA titles on launch, with an option for disk/USB stick delivery. I think optical disks in general are a losing effort, look at the sales of Blu-ray disks compared to DVDs: http://forum.digital-digest.com/f145/nielsen-videoscan-home-media-magazine-blu-ray-dvd-hd-dvd-stats-updated-weekly-86912-25.html#post590556
Even after Sony won the OD war, Blu-ray accounts for less than one third (30.36%) of movie sales versus DVD (69.64%). That's got to tell you something about the market moving forward; especially taking into account the amount of traffic that Netflix takes up on the internet, and that (from the link I posted) "Blu-ray sales increased by $13.78M (up 42.2%), while DVD sales decreased by $17.48M (down 14.1%) producing an overall loss of $3.7 million in combined revenue."
tl;dr
The optical disk is dying.
Gears of War 3 ventures into 'RAAM's Shadow' DLC this December
Oct 20th 2011 12:21PM (Joystiq)I think what Uncle Jesse meant was: is RAAM playable in Beast mode as well as campaign?
