John Carmack says Blu-ray offers better graphics

Aug 2nd 2008 7:36PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Are you trying to say that because of the approximate 8GB size of a dual-layer DVD, characters in GTA IV were restricted to fewer polygons and thus blocky hands?

Developing across both consoles has their advantages and disadvantages - HOWEVER with something as complex as differing optical mediums (with relation to both storage space and read times) it is hard to say a clear "winner" between the 360 and the PS3.

They are just different.

Limited edition red and green Xbox controllers coming Sept. 30 [update]

Jul 14th 2008 7:56PM (Joystiq)
Hmm love that they're releasing controllers in new colours - but I'd appreciate one with a new control pad - that did what I wanted more than 50% of the time... Microsoft...? Please...?

Seriously, any colour is fine, I just find it surprising that such a great controller (built off of the DualShock, Dreamcast, Xbox etc etc) still have such an inferior pad. I mean I'd rather play Street Fighter HD on a NES controller when it drops.

Call them on the telephone?

No player-created tracks for Rock Band 2

Jul 3rd 2008 9:58PM (Joystiq)
I truly see GH World Tour's create feature to be a fairly large gimmick.

I don't see the large appeal for user generated (especially composed in game..?) instrumental only songs, and hazard to guess that shared songs will be made up in bulk by recreations/"covers" of other songs sans vocals and any other instruments/effects outside what is possible in the editor.

Surprise! Rock Band 2 announced

Hopefully this has a close to simultaneous launch in all territories. I'm glad Harmonix innovated with the first guitar drums and vocal game, but here in NZ I haven't been able to join this revolution 10 months later.

While I always said I would choose Rock Band over GH (while I enjoyed and bought GHIII, I can feel it slipping into the next Tony Hawk) it would be mighty ironic if Guitar Hero World Tour comes out (in NZ) before Rock Band 2 gets here (obviously they wouldn't bother releasing Rock Band 1 here would they? Cause I'm paying full price for an outdated game).

Gametrailers.com listens, compares component and HDMI

Jan 20th 2008 2:21AM (Joystiq Playstation)
I'm surprised that as the source of this controversy, the blog didn't produce a similar video earlier to prove that GameTrailers was showing negative PS3 bias and that using non-component cables is game changing for PS3 video output?

Bionic Commando Rearmed for XBLA and PSN is a looker

I'd agree with most apart from the 360's control pad, arg!

Are comparison videos biased or just misunderstood? [Update 2]

Why are people talking about "maxing out" the settings and making analogies to PC games or cars. You cannot change any graphical settings like on PC games such as Crysis or Half-Life 2 on the PS3 or 360 in terms of textures or model quality, only resolution (which is usually 720p for most games).

Footage is recorded via component (which can output in full HD), and not from HDMI (which features full HD + sound + DRM) because it is copy protected.

Wow, I know the name of the site is ps3FANBOY but do you really need to spread misinformation?

360 at 480p, what?

They're talking about using the same cables to ensure a fair test, hence not adjusting colour and brightness settings from their system defaults.
