Gamasutra examines a PlayStation brand in crisis

Apr 29th 2011 11:32PM (Joystiq)
Ok, so first off. What did people(Gamesutra) want Sony to do, as far as blame? "yeah, it was hackers that forced us to shut down PSN...but that's because we have crappy security.". Do you know that they are at fault? If someone wants to hack your system, they will. No system is invincible. I suppose people just assume it just happened to Sony because they are worse than say Microsoft at online security. And while that is most likely true, it doesn't mean that Sony was leaving the door wide open. Does anyone have any info to back that up. Again, banks, governments, big websites have all been hacked. Is it because they were negligent, not necessarily.

Also, Sony did used to be THE big name in conolse gaming, the aren't anymore. So is being good but not the best mean you suck? Atari was the biggest name, then Nintendo then Sony, now Nintendo(and Microsoft). The market changes. Sony makes an excellent console and has plenty of great, fun games for it. The don't happen to sell the most consoles, but they have sold 10s of millions of PS3s. I don't see the terrifying problem. They aren't number one...so what. I, and slot of people are happy with their product. I think that is all that matters.

They got hacked, they are fixing it. Is this GOOD for Sony, no, but they end of the world for them, I would think not. I'm not saying they handled this situation perfectly, but if PSN is back up soon and this isn't a repeating issue I think we will get past it.

A Child of Eden trailer to change your mood

Nope, this didn't do anything. I am a fan of Rez and games like Flower and Flow...and I have a Kinect, but this isn't impressing or exciting me. I guess the big ol cursor and (seemingly) personality-less graphics don't help.

Prey 2 creative director sets the scene for an 'alien noir'

Apr 18th 2011 5:53PM (Joystiq)
I'm trying to drum up some 'care' for this game, but its hard. I think if it wasn't called Prey 2 it would really help. I'm having trouble getting past why there is a Prey 2. Here's hoping I sound stupid when the game comes out and its awesome.

THQ calls Red Faction: Battlegrounds reception a 'disappointment'

Apr 15th 2011 9:24PM (Joystiq)
I don't know that Red Faction, in general, has much traction. Going all out with movies and extra games might not be the best idea for this franchise.

Portal 2 unlocking early -- if you play the Potato Sack games long enough

@jasoncourt Error! I'm stupid! Potato Sack of games on Steam, I got it. Ignore! Ignore previous statement. :(

Yay, I get to smile every time someone mentions something like "potato-sacking" or "poop-socking" or lolcatz or something lame like that. Why, because I don't know exactly what those terms mean and I don't care. :)

Sony and PlayStation 3 jailbreaker George Hotz settle out of court

Apr 11th 2011 12:22PM (Joystiq)
Wow. This whole thing has been pretty crazy. I guess its nice to see things be "settled". It's hard believe this seems to have started because some dude was unhappy with not having the OtherOS option on his PS3 anymore.

I am definitely NOT on Hotz's side, but I think that it is safe to say that both sides seemed to react too strongly towards each other. I would like to think that there could have been something productive that could have came of the situation from the beginning(or at least not negative)...all the sudden this reminds me of DC politics.

PlayStation Network issues persist as hacker collective continues attacks

Apr 6th 2011 2:16PM (Joystiq)
Man, its nice to see so many more rational people posting here than I have seen in recent days about this. I think it also makes a difference, though, that basically these guys are f'n with our stuff...so that gets you on a side pretty quick. I will just add my voice in support of these hackers *Stopping* *Please*, this is not cool in several ways.
