The reason Sony is held to an unreasonable standard is because the legion of PS2 fanboys told outlandish tales of Sony's perfection for years without end. Now that the PS3 is faltering, those chickens are coming home to roost.
FWIW, I love LittleBigPlanet and my PS3, and will be purchasing this pack in its entirety. Cannot wait.
I'm always amused by the fanboy flamewars between PS3 and 360 owners. If you're an avid video game blog reader like I am, and I'm sure most of you are, they're completely unavoidable. They're like herpes in a whorehouse.
As someone who owns both systems, and is good friends with two guys who are polar opposite sides of this argument, I think it's safe to say that most of it stems from PS3 fanboy insecurity. The Playstation 3 hasn't lived up to its massive hype, and barring some sort of Act of God, is going to lose this round of the console wars. The system simply doesn't have as many good games as are available on the 360.
Microsoft understands the video game community. Their hardware is a piece of crap, but it lets people game in HD, and is reportedly easier to program for than the PS3. Even with the RRoD fiasco, the 360 continues to outsell the PS3 by leaps and bounds. People just don't care. They don't care that Sony went the extra mile on their hardware. The thing blows the 360 out of the water – Blu Ray, bluetooth, built in wireless, etc.
They want games. And right now, that's something that Microsoft is simply doing better.
The 360 fanboys who want to bash Killzone, which looks like an incredibly promising game (And one for which I will be lining up at midnight), are just as dumb as the Sony fans who want to knock Gears and Halo out of hand, just because it's on the 360.
Newsflash: Gears and Halo are great game franchises, with huge online communities. Unless you're one of the Sony fans who buys into this absurd theory of a media conspiracy against Sony products that I've seen lamented repeatedly, you have to concede that it's not just the fanboys who love it. Millions of gamers and game journalists/critics disagree. There's a ton to love.
On the flip-side, I love playing Resistance 2 on-line, and Little Big Planet is an absolute joy. The 360 fans who want to rip those two games mindlessly are beyond dumb.
I've never understood why a line has to be drawn in the sand, why people can't just appreciate a game system/game on its own merits, regardless of the console for which it is designed. I own both a PS3 and a 360, and now get to enjoy the best of both worlds. I lined up for LBP and MGS4, just like I did Halo 3.
It's not really about that. If Haze is fun, of course I'll give it a shot. I planned on renting it anyway. It's just disappointing that two of Sony's biggest games recently have fallen well short of being actual HD games.
Considering how loudly the Sony fanboys proclaim PS3's superiority, that's a pretty ironic (and hilarious) failing.
You know, I'm glad I own a PS3. I am. I bought one at the urging of one of my Sony-homer friends, after owning a 360 and a Wii for over a year.
If it weren't for the Blu-Ray player, the PS3 would be a major disappointment for me. The limited number of quality games available, though paced by a few outstanding titles (Ratchet, Uncharted, and Hot Shots Golf FTW!), is absolutely killing me. And then they try to sneak faux-HD by us on GTA IV, just before announcing that Haze will be in an even LOWER resolution.
Thanks, Sony. You'd better hope that MGS4, Resistance 2, and Killzone are up to snuff.
Metal Gear DLC packs coming to LittleBigPlanet Dec. 23

Killzone 2 release date is Feb. 27, 'similar timeframe' for PAL release

Good grief.
