The hundred gadget giveaway, grand prize round: Insignia NS-LCD37 LCD HDTV

Sep 16th 2007 5:09PM (Engadget HD)
This would be a perfect replacement for the 32" LCD TV that did not survive the trip down the Alcan to College.

I have one of these... but I would love to have another.

XP back on Dells -- uh, yipee?

Apr 20th 2007 1:08PM (Engadget)
I'm actually glad to see this.

At a tech for a local university I would much rather support the devil (and vulnerabilities) we know then the one we don't.

It's kinda like how MS auto-updated out I.E. 7 as a security update and it was different then the one we were provided for testing.

All of our web based financel/instructional/HR webs apps stopped working.

(Well... the main campus did... we use Firefox in my little neck of the woods.)

Our plan doesn't call for the inclusion of Vista till a few more service packs roll out the door and it's had a lot more time to be tested by people who value whiz-bang over stability.

Hydrogen fuel cell powered Hyfish jet takes flight

Apr 20th 2007 2:16AM (Engadget)
More details can be found on the aircraft Designers website, as opposed to the manufacturer of the fuel-cell. The designers clearly state they want to do more then just UAV...

"This technology can be used for a wide range of applications, from UAV to high performance sports planes to business jets that can accommodate up to 20 passengers."

http://www.smartfish.ch

If you click on the Video link you can watch the prototype flight from 2003 of the non-hydrogen powered scale model.

The newer video can be found in the news section.

If you don't have cast iron cookware to bake bread, get creative

Apr 17th 2007 3:12PM (Slashfood)
This makes me very excited since I have the best of both worlds...

I have a Lodge cast-iron wok.

Hmmm... I know what my weekend plans are going to be.

Food Porn: Bourbon Sugar Cookie Crunch Ice Cream

Mar 22nd 2007 4:50PM (Slashfood)
For this past Saint Patrick's I made both a Irish Cream ice-cream with Oreo chunks, and Grasshopper ice cream with chunks of Sharffenberger chocolate.
(I had little to much alcohol in the Grasshopper so it didn't set as firm as I would like.)

Things I'd like to try now that I'm thinking of it:
Pear Sorbet + Bonny Doon Vin De Glace
Vanilla Ice Cream + Ginger Snaps + Sky River Sweet Mead.
Raspberry Sorbet + Fresh Raspberries + Framboise (Or our excellent local Ring of Fire Raspberry Mead.)

Mythical, Googly-Eyed Sea Creature Found in Russia

Feb 8th 2007 6:49PM (Gadling)
I have seen this fish before, although I don't remember if it is a ray or a shark.

Most commonly it is associated or passed off regarding mermaid myths....

Thus far my google-fu is weak I will try and provide more details as I dig em up.

Review: Arthur and the Invisibles

Jan 12th 2007 7:30PM (Cinematical)
I need to preface this with other then finding "Happy Feet" exceptionally treehugging preachy I thought it was good flick. (I don't mind movies with a message, I just wish the wouldn't beat us over the head with it like we, or our children, are stupid.)

Doesn't Happy Feet you the same template you critized the other films for using?

Your Template:

1)An outsider hero with some kind of "loner" issues

Check.

2) accidentally thrust into a world peopled with colorful characters
Check

3) After facing some kind of larger challenge, the hero learned how to be part of a family.

Check.

What exactly made it different in those regards?
