How standardized branding could help PC games

Sep 19th 2006 12:21AM (Joystiq)
As someone with a widescreen lcd and several gamepads, I think this is a great idea if it helps to encourage developers like EA to finally support that hardware. For example, NHL07 for PC supports neither. It limits my 12 button gamepad to 8 buttons, locks the left analog stick button to "pull goalie" so I'm constantly pulling my goalie by accident when I try to move any of the other players, and doesn't support widescreen resolutions. Seriously, these are not issues that a consumer should be facing when trying to play a brand new game.

Steve Jobs fighting for $9.99 iTunes movie downloads?

Just wanted to point out that there is no law against circumventing CSS or any other copy protection in Canada. There was an attempt to pass a DMCA-like law last year but it didn't go through before Parliament was dissolved. No further attempts to revive it have been made.

Joystiq Poll: Blu-ray, yay or nay?

Jun 16th 2006 9:12AM (Joystiq)
If Blu-Ray isn't standard from the start, it's unlikely a publisher would ever be willing to ship a game on BluRay since the potential market would be too small. Even if Microsoft's 360 add-on can play games, you're not going to see much 360-exclusive HD-DVD content. Microsoft's HD-DVD add-on will just be used for playing movies.
