Just downloaded it and at first glance I'm going to say it's probably the most thorough, well designed video game related app available to date. I'm a gamefly subscriber but I like that it extends beyond gamefly functionality. Think I'll be tinkering with this one quite a bit. It pretty much covers the spectrum. Cheats, reviews, codes, controller details (sweet!), achievements and on and on.
@shagittarius: it does have coming soon dates (under the gamefly tab).
@jedi_liz: if it works on the iPhone it'll work on the Touch too.
This is awesome news. In my mind it just points to Gamefly's interest in expanding what's already a great business model. You only have to look at their growth over the last year or so to realize they're quickly becoming a dominant presence in the gaming world. The possibilities for where this will take them and Shacknews are beyond cool, The idea of Shacknews being integrated into the Gamefly site is great.
When you think about all the services Gamefly's added to their site beyond just renting games (i.e., trade ins, purchasing games, music downloads, user and critic reviews, etc...) it only points to having a one stop shop for everything game related eventually. Soon you'll be able to get your gaming news, rent a game, pick one up you've been wanting to buy and maybe trade in a couple while you're at it all in one place. Hell yes! This is a good thing.
On an unrelated note... what's this nonsense about one customer service site being less experienced than another? Customer service is customer service. It's not like they train one group differently than the other. They all work for the same company. The idea that one group can't do what the other does is silly. It doesn't make any sense.
I've had Gamefly forever and I stand by them. If anything I've only seen my service improve over time. I swear by them. They've paid for themselves time and time again with every crappy game I've been able to send back without the kick in the @ss of having spent $60 on it.
I think this casting call is hilarious... but seriously... have you seen the videos people have submitted so far? Honestly, people need to step up. Hopefully this casting call in L.A. will result in some decent stuff. Their commercials are pretty clever, I want to see people coming up with some good stuff. So far it's just been kids and web cams. All well and good but people need to rise to the challenge. I know there are plenty of people out there willing and able to goon out completely for the camera. Where are they? Bring it already?
