Hothead's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy app coming this fall

Aug 10th 2011 4:23PM (Joystiq)
Aww, I was hoping for an Android version.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations beta arrives exclusively for PS3 Sept. 3

Aug 10th 2011 12:51PM (Joystiq)
@KamiKaji I will only buy the ones that don't feature said DRM.. for example I have no problem buying older titles from Steam or GOG.

I also played Brotherhood on PS3, but that was before I heard the PC version would be less restrictive than AC2 was. If I had known that beforehand I would've gone to the PC version.

GameFly to add 'Unlimited PC Play' this holiday

Aug 9th 2011 10:12AM (Joystiq)
I'm excited about the possibilities here, but it all honestly comes down to the contracts.

They get the big guns like EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc. on board? Hell yes it'll be amazing. I'll subscribe.

If the best they can do is some shovelware apps from some Eastern European developer nobody's ever heard of? No thanks.

HBO Go coming to game consoles, bringing all-you-can-eat HBO to the TV

@MrMichael
Actually TWC was officially spun off by TW into its own company a year or two ago. They're no longer affiliated with each other.

BioShock Infinite sweeps Best of E3 Game Critics Awards, PlayStation Vita wins Best Hardware

Jun 28th 2011 1:03PM (Joystiq)
I think people upset about the Wii U getting snubbed don't quite understand what these awards mean.

Best in Show means, literally, who had the best presentation and made the best impressions during the expo. It has nothing to do with predictions of future sales or whatever.

I watched the Wii U presentation feeling fairly "meh" about the whole concept. Nintendo had an opportunity to knock it out of the park, and instead we get a clip reel showing games playing on other consoles, and a few demos that weren't exactly groundbreaking.

The Vita had a more robust demonstration and looked more impressive at the show.

The Wii U can very well turn out to be a far better piece of hardware, and may yet sell millions and millions more over its competition, but Nintendo didn't blow people away at the conference like everyone thought they would.

LA Noire arriving on PC this fall, with 3D support and improved graphics

Jun 23rd 2011 11:43AM (Joystiq)
Of course I had been waiting to see if LA Noire was going to get a PC version before I bought it.

After seeing the Red Dead Redemption rumors come and go though, I decided last week that Rockstar didn't care any more so I'd go ahead and get the PS3 version.

And now this.

Crap.

Great job, Jeremy.

Wii U won't have DVD or Blu-ray playback, will include social media functionality

Jun 15th 2011 11:29AM (Joystiq)
@vidguy

While I have no illusions of using the WiiU for media playback, I do have to say my PS3 is my sole media device. I use it as my DVD player, my Bluray player, and I stream Netflix through it.

While not everyone uses their video game consoles as media players, there are those of us who do.

Wii U won't have DVD or Blu-ray playback, will include social media functionality

@DekuTree

I strongly doubt that the licensing costs on a 16-year old technology are all that extravagant. Again, how could no-name brand companies afford not only to license the tech, but to build an entire dedicated unit, and sell it at retail (after both their own markup and the retailer's markup) for under $25?

There are some valid arguments for why it doesn't matter if Nintendo includes DVD playback or not, but the idea that it was just somehow too expensive is ridiculous.

Wii U won't have DVD or Blu-ray playback, will include social media functionality

@pfranzen That's not how economics works. There's no evidence that it would've raised the price of the consumer price of the console one cent to add DVD playback.

You don't REALLY think they sell something for the exact same price it costs them to make, do you?
