Umm, no. Only if you own a TV. It's currently extended so that any device receiving transmissions "at or about the same time" as the channels are put out is supposed to be counted. However really, that's not the case.
You only currently have to pay if you have a TV and use it (if it's in the attic or something then it doesn't count).
Even then it would be worth it! The BBC provides news to the whole damn world! They're a unique organisation. A nationalised but non-governmental news outlet which provides services to the whole world. It's basically the best thing about England!

I love the iPlayer. Most of the radio stuff is available internationally. I wish they would release a DSiware app for the radio content.... and then release it again in Japan so I can get it on my DSi.

Exactly John. It's not so much the use of the term but the people they're using it for. It's not some clever or ironic joke designed to reclaim the word or somehow turn it round on those who use it wrongly. It's aimed at the kids of Live who already scream it all over the place.

Explain to me why it's clever... as opposed to really really stupid. At best it was boring.
Basically, this was the worst way to do this joke. They must know that their demographic is largely the kind of people who will be encouraged by this. Think about what it's like on X-box live. Those are the people you shouldn't be making these kind of jokes to. The one's who'll think it's funny for exactly the wrong reasons.

Well not really. For instance 28 days later, one of the more obvious inspirations for L4D, shows them leaving the "infected" to starve to death.
Also, saying "If something's already dead then..." as a logical argument is a little odd. When it's the undead there HAVE to be extenuating circumstances by definition. What those are is undefined.
