Twitter for Mac update removes hidden features

Jan 13th 2011 5:27AM (TUAW.com)
AppleZilla, you can right click on the application, choose "show package contents", then navigate down to /contents/resources and drop the black icon in there. Be aware that you'll probably need to do this every time Twitter is updated (software-wise).

Interestingly, having not yet updated mine, I've noticed that there is an alternate version of Icon.icns (the application icon) labeled Icon_2.icns... wonder why.

Holiday savings for designers with the Fusion Ads Holiday Bundle

@Cronick: While attempting to respond in a slightly more polite way than you chose to comment, I would perhaps call into question your chops as a designer.

I too am a professional designer, and I think the website looks fantastic. It very much matches the current vogue in web design, sort of riffing a bit on infographics. Perhaps you just need to do a better job of keeping up with current trends.

Cheers :)

Not to quibble Steve, but it's "capice?" not "capiche?"

But you rock anyway :)

I agree. Correct punctuation and grammar are the difference between helping your uncle Jack off his horse, and helping your uncle jack off his horse.

Ya'll are doing it wrong. Have a local copy of your lib on each box, stored in the normal place, and allow fruux to handle the calendar/note syncing.

Well since mental went mental on us I just want to put this out there, because I feel that it needs to be said.

Robert, you have almost single-handedly restored the lost respect I had for TUAW. Your writing is a fantastic antithesis to the blathers of Bohon and (former) Sadun.

Please keep up the great work!

Cheers,

WebKit adds some Sparkle

Jan 13th 2009 11:41PM (TUAW.com)
@ Bassir: Good question, and one that a lot of people are unclear on.

Webkit is basically the Framework upon which Safari (and a growing number of other browsers and applications) are built. Think of it as the rendering engine. So Safari (the application) contains Webkit (the rendering engine). The application Webkit is an advanced open source build of that engine. It supports some bleeding edge features that haven't yet made it into regular non-beta browsers yet.

You'll sacrifice a little stability for an understanding of how to best use emerging browser technology. As a developer, I can honestly say, I cannot live without it.
