Never mind the art, here's a Shadowrun preview
Feb 25th 2007 1:02PM (Joystiq)Killing us softly with a PS3 song
Feb 25th 2007 11:01AM (Joystiq)Look at Nintendo during the N64 days and the new Nintendo with DS and the Wii.
The Sony executives ridiculosly overestimated the value of their brand, and just like the N64 couldn't be saved by Mario64, Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye (some of the best games ever released, and possibly better than anything the PS3 will ever get), FF13 and MGS4 won't be able to save the PS3.
If all goes right, Sony will wake up and reform, just like Nintendo did, and we might all learn to like them again.
Trade your car for a PS3
Jan 23rd 2007 1:30PM (Joystiq)Does anyone except those justifying the purchase like it anymore?
Japanese hardware sales, 8 Jan - 14 Jan: post-holiday blues edition
Jan 20th 2007 2:33AM (Joystiq)Low sales numbers translate to a low install base, and a low install base ultimatively means few exclusives and bad ports.
The PS3 costs too much for the casual crowd and chased away the hardcore crowd with stunningly bad PR.
People keep saying FF13 and MGS4 will turn everything around, but just take a look at the N64: It had Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and Golden Eye, the best games of that generation, and some of the best games ever released. The N64 has more games in the Top10 than every other platform (including PC), yet it still was inferior to the PS.
If Ocarina of Time couldn't save the N64, then I don't see how FF13 (which could merely be a high 80's game for all we know) can save the PS3.
The only difference is, that with the N64, you got what was the best game ever at that point, whereas with the PS3, you get a good, but still forgettable game. Oh, and if you bought a N64, you weren't down 600 bucks.
Granted, the Wii isn't too useful right now either (though it is still a nice party machine), but it has enough hype and a cheap enough price to get a large install base, so it likely will get a lot of exclusives eventually.
I wouldn't buy it right now, but there is not yet much reasons to regret a purchase.
Wii: sucking in the seniors, bit by bit
Jan 8th 2007 4:00PM (Joystiq)If you haven't noticed yet, only kids and adolescents care about game ratings. Adults (unless they are parents), usually really don't care about it.
The most mature game I can think of right now, Planescape Torment, would probably have been better without any kind of displayed violence.
Mature is not shooting someone's head off or watching porn. You will hopefully understand that once you finally are an adult.
Satoru Iwata: biggest Japanese industry cheese of '06?
Jan 2nd 2007 12:52PM (Joystiq)I am certainly not one of the people who foretell Sony's certain doom, but we can all agree that the Playstation 3 went from the certain winner of the console wars by about 80 million consoles, to the likely loser in 2006.
Chances are, 10 years from now, this will be in a list of the Top 25 mistakes in gaming.
So, unless they judge by both good and bad influence, I don't think Kutaragi should be that close to Iwata. To exaggerate it just slightly, one saved his company from certain doom, the other one have doomed his.
Earlier success doesn't help against mistakes, as Gunpei Yokoi (the father of the Gameboy and the Virtual Boy) would know.
Wii woes: some win, some lose, some sing blues
Dec 27th 2006 3:02PM (Joystiq)In all honesty, half a year ago, I couldn't believe Wii buzz would get even bigger, and PS3 buzz would vanish that easily.

Dec 7th 2006 11:01AM (Joystiq)In fact, if there wouldn't be some subsection of porn mixed with violence (rape, S&M, guro for those unfortunate enough to know of it), I would be unconvinced that porn is actually harmful at all.
And I'm saying that as an Asexual.
Japanese hardware sales, 20 Nov - 26 Nov: Krazy Kutaragi addition
Dec 2nd 2006 4:50AM (Joystiq)In Japan, the DS is apparently no longer part of the console market, it is part of it's very own DS market.
It may have started as an ordinary console, but by now it apparently gets used for all sorts of different applications, from recipe storing to school work.
So, unlike in the West, it's not about whether you own a PSP or a DS, it's about whether or not the gaming capabilities of your DS are enough of you, if you want to have a PSP on top of the DS you are pretty much required to own anyway.
Capcom's Lost Planet tiny text
Nov 26th 2006 10:53AM (Joystiq)Sure, Capcom can choose to ignore the vast majority of consumers (and likely even the majority of XBox users), no consumers have a right to tell them what to do, but it still seems like an ridiculosly stupid decision at first glance.
Fortunately for them, most players that would know about lacking SD support before buying the product are hardcore gamers, and own a HDTV anyway.
With that said, I still see no point. I would rather pay someone for two or three hours of work instead of getting bad PR.
