NFL Blitz review: All-star team

Why does it say it is $59.99? The game is 1200 MS points, that's $15, right?

Need For Speed World caters to your need to spend money

@sigma8 Not that $100 isn't a stupid amount of money, but did you just classify spending $8-10 as "fine dining"?

I'm really glad I'm not your girlfriend

Apple discontinues most boxed software

Was the "gone swimmingly" part sarcasm? I honestly can't tell. I've been downloading my copy of Lion for the last 7 hours and it's not even 25% complete yet. I haven't really read much on if that's typical of what everybody else is experiencing or not.

iPhone: What is DFU mode, and what's the difference from recovery mode?

May 25th 2011 5:11PM (TUAW.com)
I'd be willing to bet the issue is being caused by tinyumbrella in a fair amount of these reported cases. By default it blocks the ability to update your baseband on iPhone4s, jailbroken or not. This used to not be a problem, but with the latest firmwares Apple started checking to see if the baseband matches the firmware and if it doesn't, it throws it into a rebooting loop that, best I could figure out, can only be escaped by jailbreaking and then using tinyumbrella to kick it out of recovery.

So if people are having this issue. I'd suggest making sure tinyumbrella isn't installed on the computer you're using to update your phone with. Or if it is installed, I think there is an option to allow baseband updates in the settings somewhere. I'm not sure exactly, I just used a different computer to update and it worked fine that way.

Admiring the beauty of an iPhone 'Aged to Perfection'

May 5th 2011 11:33PM (TUAW.com)
I had literally had my 1st gen iPhone for less than 2 hours the first time I dropped it. I managed to alllllmost catch it with my foot, but instead ended up punting it across the room causing it to slide across the hard uneven floor. So yep, 2 hours from purchase, my beautiful $500 investment had more scratches than a 4 year old with chicken pox.

And I think that was the best thing that could have happened. Because, while I did try my best to not drop it anymore (and succeeded for the most part) I didn't let small scratches worry me or obsess over what I carried in my pocket with my phone. I just carried it around with me like I had been doing with my free phone before it and didn't stress. And it ended up working out. Mine doesn't quite look like the one pictured, but it probably would if it hadn't been retired since the 3GS came out. I personally love that look and kinda wish there was a way to have all the new features of the iPhone4 in the original case. It does seem to have a lot more personality, IMO.

Orb TV streams video from your Mac to your TV

Mar 23rd 2011 10:29PM (TUAW.com)
For the same price, you can get an Apple TV 2 which, among all the other "official" features, can be jailbroken which allows you to install XBMC on it. After that, you can play the same Orb streams on your TV (with HDMI)

AT&T aggressively moving against unauthorized tethering

Mar 18th 2011 9:06AM (TUAW.com)
So much FUD in this article, it disgusts me. I suppose it's possible TUAW is on AT&T's side (even though the article says otherwise) and decided to write this article to help them in their endeavors to spread fear over this. The first thing I see wrong is the very misleading article title. AT&T isn't aggressively doing anything. At least not yet. Aggressive would be to automatically cancel unlimited on all accounts where unauthorized tethering is taking place. I can assure you they aren't doing this. Instead they are simply sending out text messages to what appears to be the top users of the service. Reports I'm seeing are saying that most of the people receiving the warnings are using in the neighborhood of 25GB or more per month. And they also say that in most, if not all cases AT&T is backing down when you call a service rep, play dumb, and tell them you don't know what tethering is, and just use a lot of netflix and pandora.
Perhaps this is just step one, and they really can tell who is tethering and who isn't. But even as the article states, there are practically unlimited ways to hide what you are doing. The hackers will always win. Count on it. Articles like this do nothing but help spread misinformation and doubt among casual users and are harmful to the community they claim to serve. You should be ashamed of yourself, TUAW. I really did think you guys were better than this mess.

Poll: Are you interested in buying Google TV hardware?

Aug 15th 2010 5:03PM (Engadget HD)
Where's the option for "I'm waiting for more info on the price and specs"?

At $100, I'll probably pick on of these up just to play with. For $300 or more, I don't think it's worth it.
