You have to remember, there is a reason they did this. If the zune software transfers music, the music gets properly organized in the right folder to reduce I/O times. If the phone had to scan every single file to look for changes and to find the right file, it would take forever to do anything.

@Bosco That's unlikely as developing for such a wide range of hardware will be come very complex. All windows and controls will have to be able to support every resolution and screen size. Developers would have to add special-case code to make sure everything fits properly on a smartphone and nothing looks smashed-together on a netbook. Among other things.

@taligent It's valid, but it makes parsing and reading it using any normal XML reader more complicated than it should be.

The cool thing is, I'm currently working on an instant messaging client that let's you do exactly this. Still in-development, but it's getting close to being ready.
