Nintendo denies official DS developer status to 'Bob's Game' creator

Aaaaaaaaand long post is long. Sorry about that.

Nintendo denies official DS developer status to 'Bob's Game' creator

Feb 6th 2009 2:57PM (Joystiq)
This is completely irrelevant, but your avatar is made of win.
On-topic: My pet theory is that the whole protest - the sit-in, the Nintendo World incident, everything - is a viral ad to get the word out about Bob's Game.

From Bob's blog, on January 15th:
"This is the end of my pitch to Nintendo of America- which Mr. Tom Prata, Senior Director of Project Development, authorized on Feb 22, 2008.
Thanks to all Nintendo staff and to Nintendo's PR department for allowing this to
continue as long as it has.
If Nintendo decides not to proceed, "bob's game" will be released for iPhone, Android, and possibly OpenPandora, XBLA, Steam, and PSP.
I am a Nintendo fan, and I would like to see "bob's game" released on the Nintendo DS more than any of these systems.
Please let Nintendo know if you would like to show your support for "bob's game" being released on the DS.
In this age of nearly infinite information flow and instant turnover, getting a message out there is nearly impossible, even with millions of dollars for advertising.
Yet I have succeeded at this and caught the attention of nearly the entire online gaming world- from a locked room with a cell phone and no budget whatsoever.
If this does not demonstrate to Nintendo the determination, passion, creativity, and ingenuity that I am capable of, then I don't know what will.
Unorthodox, of course. I had to do something completely new, something that hadn't been tried before- and it worked.
bobsgame.com has now had over 1 million unique visitors. My mission has been a success.
In other words,
Thank Yuu for playing.

THANKS, REGGIE!"

Judging by this and some other entries, I'm guessing that most of the weirder stuff on Bob's blog (the whole "insanity" thing, for example) was planned out. I don't know if Nintendo turning him down was for reals, but even if it was, we'll be seeing this in one form or another, probably before 2009 is done.
Even if the video game development thing doesn't work out for Bob, I think he could get a well-paying job at an advertising agency. Most of Joystiq has swallowed this story hook, line, and sinker, after all...

Jilted Bob's Game creator fights back by littering

Feb 1st 2009 2:23PM (Joystiq)
I've been convinced it was viral marketing since last month when Bob pretty much said it outright on his blog. (It's the post called "Legal Disclaimer".)
When you realize that this whole thing is, essentially, brilliant trolling/grassroots marketing (guy can't exactly afford a Super Bowl ad, you know), it's incredibly fun to watch.

Sonic, the Black Knight, and the Stereotypical Sonic Music

But...but everyone knows that a game can't be good unless everyone else likes it!

Sonic, the Black Knight, and the Stereotypical Sonic Music

Oh. Sorry 'bout that. >_<
Dude seems like a pretty accomplished composer besides that, and Jun Senoue is working on the soundtrack too, so I'm good. ^_^

It is. Check my overly-long comment above for more details. ;)

Sonic, the Black Knight, and the Stereotypical Sonic Music

Classic music? In YOUR Sonic game? It's more likely than you'd think.
Quoth Wikipedia:
Veteran composer Jun Senoue returns to compose music for this installment, mixing familiar Sonic themes with a Celtic style. In addition, his band, Crush 40, will be returning to perform the main theme of the game, "Knight of the Wind". Tommy Tallarico has the game listed on his website as one of the games he is working on. Finally, Richard Jacques is confirmed to be making the music for the cutscenes by the Official Nintendo Magazine.

So, yeah...Jun Senoue, Tommy Tallarico (the guy behind Video Games Live), and Richard Jacques (who has worked on the soundtracks of Jet Set Radio and SUPER FREAKIN' SMASH BROS. BRAWL) doing medieval remixes of classic Sonic tunes? I think we can deal with another Crush 40 main theme.

(As a sidenote, I actually AM somewhat excited for this game. An entire game of Unleashed's "day stages" = DO WANT, sword or no sword.

Sega: 'Let's trademark an embarrassing title'

Think about this for a second. A game called "Toy-Lets." FOR THE WII.
It's like the Holy Grail of Immature Bathroom Humor.

Bob's Saga rumbles on

I wholeheartedly support this man for no reason beyond the fact that he is an unending fount of entertainment.

Thirded. A TMNT four-player brawler developed by members of Team Ninja and the Smash Bros. team? I see very few ways that this could go wrong.
