Sniffer algorithm leads robots to faint, faraway scents

Jan 27th 2007 11:04AM (Engadget)
Awesome, haven't you ever had a funky smell in your place and wondered where the heck it was coming from? This is a great invention, hope it comes to the market soon!

PS3 ads still peddling potentials

What's actually happening is Joystiq is being paid by Sony to post so much flame-inducing madness that everyone begins to think that Sony is just the hated-on contender here and they actually deserve some love.

Picture It: console zealots find common ground

Do what Slashdot did one April Fool's (I think) and for a whole day post only graphs (they posted dupes since everyone over there gets so ticked about those).

Halo Wars trailer gives us goosebumps

Sep 28th 2006 12:56PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Woah woah woah now.

I'm a huge fan of Halo, but you guys were actually that excited from this trailer? I just felt like something was off. I felt like they were trying hard but something wasn't quite right. And then when I heard the voice of the Spartan... I don't know if I could play the game hearing that guy's voice every time I moved a group of them some place. :)

Don't get me wrong, I still have hope for it, I don't want them to screw it up, but I'd like to see the actual game!

Homebrew sans the flash cart [Update]

Jul 13th 2006 1:33PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I don't see why they can't have a NoPass-esque one card one slot DS solution that has a CF/SD/miniSD slot on it. The NoPass technique apparently lets them run code out of the DS slot with no problems (that's what these UltraPass/NinjaPass or whatever are doing), so why not have a card adapter glued on too?

Intense first Pokemon Diamond/Pearl footage: walking around

Well, I dunno how "pseudo" 3D it is; if you watch the buildings you can see that they are 3D (at least, based on what you can tell from the video). I say this because you can see the side of the houses slowly disappearing as the camera moves above them. Now, I couldn't notice the same with the trees, but I didn't try that hard, so who knows. :D

Portable LEGO Star Wars II details

May 15th 2006 12:07PM (Joystiq)
Ah, but we all know (or are realizing) just how realistic ratings can be. There are plenty of people who just want to have fun playing a game, and there are also plenty of games that are fun, but don't get rated high because they don't have above average graphics.

I'm not trying to defend DS games, since I've never played one, but I just thought I'd mention that.

Paris Hilton creates a mob scene [update 1]

May 12th 2006 6:36AM (Joystiq)
Has there been any media coverage of E3 because of her appearance, or were the ones there already going to be doing the show anyways?

On a sidenote, how do you people (who are flaming Paris) justify acting that way? Can you honestly say that if you had a audience of thousands in front of you, and you were giving your opinion of her in front of them, that would say/act the same way? Would you be screaming your CAPS?

I think if you did, a large portion of the people would think you were insane. Or had anger issues. Or something.

I'm not trying to defend what she's done (and I don't pretend to even know most of it, I'm one of those Canadian's nobody cares about). Some of you act like the pornography tape she made is worse than other celebrities who may have done so as well. Just because she profited off its release, well maybe they were just going to release it anyways.

But besides that, I'd say it's safe to say we've all done things that we're not very proud of. To paraphrase: how about instead of trying to take the speck out of her eye, you work on getting the plank out of yours.

PC impressions: Battlefield 2142

May 12th 2006 6:24AM (Joystiq)
I loved BF2, but I think that was mainly because of the awesome community I played with. My friend and I played on the servers at www.tacticalgamer.com, where teamwork was enforced, as much as it can be I suppose. Most of the players on the servers would work together in their squads who would work with the commander (you know, the way you're supposed to play BF2).

But I agree, there were some balancing issues and stuff that made it tough to love at times. I can't believe they haven't made a good multiplayer BF for 360 (and by good I mean, all the good features of BF2 [squads/commander] and none of the bad).

Photoblog: Inside the Xbox 360 blogger bus

I definitely think that there is a big push at MS for community interaction as of late. A lot of their teams (if not all?) have blogs now, and think of Major Nelson's po- I mean blogcast, which he's had for quite some time now I guess.

I think MS is trying to change their image a little, what with 'hip' company's like Google eating up market share.

But that's just my opinion :D
