Much smaller journey: The Longest Journey coming to iPhone

Oct 28th 2011 6:25AM (Joystiq)
Pixel-hunting? I'd call that an insult to a well made point-and-click like this. Maybe nowadays you can get away with calling a "hunt the item" game a point-and-click adventure, but but a few short years ago when this was made, you'd have been attacked on the street. I think it should work fine on a small screen.
Anyway, this wasn't really aimed at anyone here, but more a rant caused by my hatred of hidden item games being counted point-and-click adventure games.
Sorry everyone.

Resident Evil Revelations preview: Drained

@picxel I agree we don't want a complete return to the old games. But Mr Gilbert even complains about the lack of ammo:
"an incredibly constrained supply (at least in my demo) means aiming carefully and knowing when to run. As charming as these properties may be to some gamers, I found them increasingly frustrating and archaic". I still think he doesn't get survival horror games.

@yomachaser TBH I had RE1 in mind when I wrote that.

So... you don't like the original RE games? Fair enough.
I really like the suspense created by not necessarily being able to defend yourself due to lack of ammo. That's what makes it a survival horror game, as opposed to an action game. I think you just don't get survival horror games.

Why would it not just be pronounced "Zillia"? Surely that would be the obvious pronunciation.

Now Playing: November 15-21, 2010

No Need for Speed on the Wii? I thought it come out on the same day as the other versions. Or is it just that you lot aren't playing it this week?

Watch these lucky people play Nintendo 3DS before you can

Oct 29th 2010 3:12PM (Joystiq)
@killdash9 I'm pretty sure it's impossible to change the viewing angle for the screens. The screen uses a fixed parallax barrier, which is basically a sheet with loads of tiny slits in it, over the top of the screen. But apparently it's not too hard to keep the console in roughly the right position.

Preview: The 3DS lineup

@copa Well, considering it basically has two top screens (one for each eye), the 3D effect can be as superfluous or as integrated into gameplay as the developer wants. In Starfox 64 3D you'd be able to better judge how far away enemies are as an example. It has the potential to be used in gameplay, whether it will be remains to be seen.

Meet Arc Rise Fantasia's summons, voice actors

I just hope the European publisher listens to all the people on their forums saying "Please, for the love of god, don't use those voices!". I'm not sure if they'd rather no voices, or the original Japanese voices, but either way, I hope the publisher listens.

Nintendo 3DS handheld announced, more news at E3

Mar 23rd 2010 9:52AM (Joystiq)
This sounds like it'll maybe be using head tracking instead of 3D glasses. But those are nothing alike. Head tracking allows you to change the camera's perspective in the game, but it doesn't look like real 3D. Only by having two screens side by side and going cross eyed could you do 3D without glasses.
