Final Fantasy XIV merging servers in March

Feb 9th 2012 11:38AM (Massively)
@fatedruby
I'm willing to bet a lot of people didn't bother trying the game while it was free, because we've always known subscriptions were coming. If they actively rebranded this a F2P game, interest would be a lot higher.

As it is, interest in the game has been minimal and I don't see it getting any better.

A sneak peek at Guild Wars 2's PvP Scholar armor [Updated]

@DeadlyAccurate
There's a decent variety of armour in the game for females, beyond the scantily clad bikini's.

The one they've shown here doesn't set a good example, but hey, maybe it's their plan to draw more people to PVP.

Amazon.de begins Guild Wars 2 preorders, claims June 30th launch date

It's an MMO. There's no way it won't be a worldwide release.

Teasing an interview with Guild Wars 2 on PvP

@Darkmoone
If you think this is vapourware, you obviously don't know the meaning of the term.

They're taking their time to release it, yes, but most MMO's are in development for this long. GW2 just had the misfortune of being announced very early on (otherwise it would have seemed like the developers had just abandoned GW1).

BioWare: 'Gray Jedi' playstyle in SWTOR will reap rewards

@entropyboy
Most of the choices in the game just aren't that deep. There's *never* any morally gray options, it's always clear cut be good, or be evil. Even as someone who prefers to find the middle ground and be the neutral character, I can't see how swinging from holier than thou good, to killing people who "deserve" to die, makes any sense. That's not a neutral philosophy, let alone a gray jedi one.

BioWare: 'Gray Jedi' playstyle in SWTOR will reap rewards

This is good, one of my problems with the game is the lack of choice when it comes to conversation. You're either good or evil with no room for the middle ground.

But this still isn't the best solution. Now your character is just going to seem very bi-polar, going from stroking passing kittens, to killing random quest givers because they looked at you wrong. That's not being a gray jedi!

Play Mass Effect 3 and Reckoning demos, unlock in-game items for both

I hate pre-order bonuses, but this isn't a bad way of getting people interested in another game. Both look fantastic, so I'm not complaining.

MLG moves more than 100 domains in opposition of SOPA

Jan 8th 2012 8:10AM (Joystiq)
@TaengtheHero Take a look at Youtube at the moment. If a company complains about copyright violation, they will typical remove the video, no questions asked, out of good will and to avoid problems. You see this a lot with people uploading simple things like Star Trek reviews, which Paramount insists is in violation of their copyrights.

If this bill passes every website would be *required* by law to comply with these demands. It goes well beyond stopping piracy and would completely destroy sites like Youtube or DeviantArt.

@TaengtheHero Do you work for GoDaddy, or do you just have no idea what this bill would actually mean for the internet?

Star Trek Online holds 'last chance sale' before F2P kicks in

@Deliverator
The F2P "bubble" is not going to pop. More likely, it'll completely replace subscription based games. People nowadays are accustomed to paying very little for games, and this is the ultimate example of that.

With STO you can literally play through the whole game for completely free, the only things you're missing out on are a few features that will help make the game easier (like these high tier ships) but are far from necessary.

Where as with something like Old Republic, you're paying £40 for the game and then £15 every month, regardless of how much you play or what content you use. Which sounds better?

Personally, I don't like either model, I'd much rather see more games adopt the Guild Wars buy to play model. Purchase the full price game, get access to it and all of its content for as long as you want, and purchase any future expansions separately. It likely costs as much as what you're paying with a subscription if you're hardcore, but gives you more control over it.
