Found Footage: Steve Jobs demonstrates NeXT Step

Nov 30th 2010 2:49PM (TUAW.com)
The passive aggressive demo of a virtualized DOS program @30:50 just kills me. "So here's an example of a 123 sheet running in a window, right next to your GOOD applications here."

lol

Next-generation iPad parts suppliers supposedly named

Nov 20th 2010 1:55PM (TUAW.com)
I dunno, they tend to have their big-ticket items (Mac Pros, Macbooks, iMacs) update in the first part of the year, but rarely ever are their consumer products (iPods, iPhones, AppleTVs) *updated* that time of year. (Though they might be introduced, but that's different.) It's always seemed to me that the things that are more likely to sell like crazy during the holidays are what Apple decides to update in the second half of the year, so they don't spurn all the customers who "just got the new one, and it's already been replaced!"

The stuff they update in the first few months of the year are the things they really push at the "back to school" time in august, so by the time march or april comes around, people have had them for 8 months.

That's just how it looks like they operate to me. Look at their historic release/update cycle, and see what you think.

I have the feeling Apple won't want to release a new iPad so quickly after people just gots theirs in the holiday season, I'm betting the release gets pushed back a few months from April.

New iPads at the same time as new iPhones in July?

Wall Street Journal confirms Beatles on iTunes

Nov 15th 2010 6:45PM (TUAW.com)
A day I'll never forget, when I could buy something that's been on sale in various formats for several decades, but now I can buy it in ANOTHER format that's neither new nor novel!

I'll remember it forever.

The point isn't that the Beatles aren't important, the point is that it's quite a bit of buildup for something so uninteresting to most people.

Even die-hard Beatles fans can't be so excited to buy a lossy lower-quality version of something they surely own, at least not excited enough to "remember it forever" (then again, they are Beatles fans...)

Hasbro making 3D goggles for iPhone

Not just kids: I'm sure there are other grownups like me who are into stereoscopy.

If this thing is just made of a few lenses for cross-type viewing, I already have a bunch of images I took with the "3D Camera" app.

...and with the Retina display, the iPhone4 is already one of the best cross-type stereoscopy viewing screens out there.

I'm SOLD. :)
