Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Mortal Kombat

Jan 2nd 2012 11:57PM (Joystiq)
After you guys put it on your list, I threw MK back in my 360 after not having played it since around May. It really is a blast. I used to like fighting games, but so many of them now are just incredibly inaccessible (looking at you, UMvC3). I love that there's so much singleplayer stuff to do, and the actual fighting is easily better than MK has ever been.

Best of the Rest: Alexander's picks of 2011

Well, at least this means DS2 didn't make the top 10. Aside from the gross-out moments, I found it utterly forgettable compared to the first one. I tried to get into M&M:CoH but I just can't for some reason. YDKJ is legitimately wonderful.

WRUP: 2011's galaxy of games

I finished Saints Row The Third on Thursday; it's got a few strong moments but overall I think it's enormously overrated. On Friday I spent about eight more hours (crossing the 50 hours mark) with Skyrim and easily had more fun in those eight hours than I did in the 15 or so I spent with SR3. So anyway, it'll probably just be me and Skyrim going into the new year, and maybe I'll start on something else in my backlog, like Tropico 4, Ico or Resistance 3.

In my experience, you ask for a sealed copy and they tell you they don't have any.

Been avoiding GS for months now, but I guess I'll grab Rayman. As long as I can order a sealed copy online instead of buying a "new" copy in-store.

Ten years. It was ten years ago I got a PS2 for Christmas, and TMB was the first game I bought for it a day or two later. I didn't even have the money to buy a memory card for another week or so. Still have my copy within arm's reach here; it's one of the few games that's gone with me every single time I've moved in and out of dorms, apartments, and houses over the last decade, never getting stashed at my parents' house.

Can you tell I'm excited for Feb. 14?

Sad to see you go, but I'm excited to see what you have up your sleeve while Ludwig takes over here. Oh, and you guys are doing one last podcast this week, right? Right.

No games, but I got Batman: Long Halloween and Hush books, which I was inspired to put on my wishlist by Arkham City. Also got $100, which I might spend on games, but my backlog's too big already. Oh, and a sweet leather coat to replace mine that was stolen last winter.
