Hands-on: Red Steel 2 (2009)

Feb 22nd 2010 9:15PM (Joystiq)
That's an ad hominem if I ever saw one. You've got a few posts here as well, take the time to hit reply on one of my other posts instead of latch onto a single snarky remark (yet you're so fine with JQ's own such remarks).

My CW posts were as valid as my comments here, ie, more so than the JQ article and the defenders' (that's you) crap. And how does that imply fanboyism considering the articles are pretty much 100% unrelated?

This JQ article, as many times before, is full of factual errors that go beyond opinion. I've explained several instances in later comments, so scroll down and hit reply or give up your nonsense personal attacks and your own illogical contradictions.

From TLDR you start responding, from responding you just stick to one little line and then proceed to ad hominem, yet you find it so absurd that I wrote 3 or 4 comments instead of one? Would it really have helped you if the other comments of mine had a different name attached to them and you saw them as a fresh poster instead of me?

You're being as absurd as the author now, and thus, I will not waste more of my time with you. Every rational person here can see the blatant lies of the article in regards to level variety, enemy behaviour, their weak points, player interactions, game pace, and so on and so forth by looking at almost full playthroughs of the press demos (that JQ also apparently played) that the actually respectable outlets made sure to offer.

If you're not one rational person, take it up with your genes, not me.

Sorry but I'm, just a gamer, and when I like a game, I can still see its flaws, while when I dislike a game, I can still see its merits, if it has any, so I expect the same from supposed professionals in the field. Keep being a JQ fanboy defending them in every mis step though. And again, the same game could never be described "slow and dull" and "nonstop action" just from a difference of opinion. And please respond to my other comments (or GTFO), you just latched on one little snarky comment from all of my posts, exactly because you can't have an actual argument against most of what I've said which is perfectly valid. And hey, if you don't think so, that's your opinion and this is mine, deal with it and move on with your life, since hey, opinions can differ so much as you say.

Dur, of course I don't think that's what happened, but it would be a more logical explanation than that opinions can differ so much so that one man's "no downtime in the action" becomes another's "slow and dull crawl through levels", and I didn't want to call him a liar just yet (I did later on, read my later comments). Quality aside of course. I cannot judge that just yet. I'm glad you ignore the other posts of mine which show blatant inaccuracies and absurd complaints (judging level variety from a press demo? really?) on the article's part though, it shows where your priorities are. And what happened to TLDR ;)

Just a forum dweller who's getting increasingly tired of bad games writing. Personally the more I saw of Red Steel 2 the less faith I had in the game, but there's no need for hyperbole and outright lies to criticise something. Though the new videos in the first link I posted did make me somewhat hyped, but that's as of today, and by release day it may well change again.

"Gestures only"

Yeah right, Lol.

Gestures are obviously required for special moves and fatalities, but it's clear there's near 1:1 play enabled as well for the majority of the slashing.

Also the videos (from the hands-on session, not official trailers, like the excellent 60 fps videos GamerSude uploaded) show plenty of enemies that die from gunfire, and the complain about the samey environments sounds pretty moot given the time you played, considering no such game hops from a desert to a snow level (which I'm sure is absent here, given the setting, buy you know what I mean) every other room. By the way, bid you rate Bioshock as "BORING" because it was all set in Rapture with most areas having a similar art deco style and decoration through out?

A far cry from most other previews which found the game rarely had downtime from the fast paced and fun action. The videos they saw fit to include show that much as well. Maybe you were a jerk and was therefor punished with a bad section.

Maybe if you had a video to demonstrate how boring it was you would have a better case.

Nintendo: GTA Chinatown Wars sales 'frustrating'

Dec 10th 2009 5:58AM (Joystiq)
DS owners are gamers like anyone else, they don't have different gameplay or maturity standards. A game not wanted on DS is a game not wanted anywhere so still blaming the platform for not selling "mature" games is stupid when a platform that does sell mature games as you even claim yourself still couldn't sell this particular game. And they did redo the graphics, have you actually seen the game or are you talking out of your ass? It's almost 100% overhauled, from the city graphics to the cars and the lighting, only the little characters remain the same. And yes, the port was done because the sales were supposdelly disapointing, but it's still the game's fault since he PSP port clearly didn't help the sales enough to be "not disapointing" anymore. It was a problem of expectations, GTA top down is a NICHE game, not a MAINSTREAM game, so to expect MAINSTREAM sales from it was stupid. It cost a fraction of a "real" GTA's cost, it got a fraction of the marketing, yet they expect it to be a million seller? Well, the joke's on them for not being able to understand the very industry they're in.

Because on PSP it's got almost all-new and much more detailed visuals. It's the art assets that take time (and thus money) in game development when it comes to so simple games and DS titles cost next to nothing in that regard as you need less time with less time for an equal amount of lower detail, simple content. The DS version sold good and Rockstar must have made a lot of profit on it. I don't know why they'd expect GTA IV caliber sales when the game neither cost as much as GTAIV nor was it advertised as much. The PSP version flopping proves the blame is on the game. DS owners don't have lower standards than other system owners in gameplay, to try and claim GTA should sell as much because it's made specifically for DS is stupid since, specifically or not, it's not the GTA people want to play as proven by the PSP lesser sales. Perhaps you can't have a full 3D GTA on DS, but then you shouldn't expect 3D GTA sales from any game you make. Duh.

Yeah, too bad she wasn't informed enough to mention the game sold worse on PSP (and probably lost Rockstar money, when the DS low-graphics low-cost version must have made them a healthy sum of money with its all things considered good sales) showing the blame falls on Rockstar and not the DS. Then again the "journalist" asking her wasn't informed enough (or was, and just wanted to be a sensational troll) so lol @ him/her.
