Breakfast Topic: A message to someone who's left a lasting impression
Sep 4th 2011 6:04PM (WoW)I joined a guild of an old friend's, which was relatively small (barely enough to gather people for a 5man) but friendly and sociable. When it became clear that Cataclysm was not enjoyed by those friends, they left, and most of the other guild members swapped guilds from the silence.
Only one other person remained besides myself, and they boosted me through dungeons, kept me company on Ventrilo. When I hit 85, they helped me gear up and get enough confidence for heroics. They became somebody I could trust and a truly loyal friend. I am and continue to be eternally grateful for the company he provided me through a very rough patch of my life.
I spent my birthday in March at his house with a few other friends, and after some long talks about 'feelings' and gooey gross stuff like that, we ended up as a couple.
The whole 'life' thing doesn't sound so scary now that I have somebody to spend it with.
Thank you, Tre. I love you.
And the epilepsy debate continues, this time in Parliament
Jul 5th 2008 9:51AM (Joystiq Nintendo)Have a copy-pasta from the reply he sent me in answer to my complaints and questions.
"Dear Ms Smith,
Thank you for contacting me about this. The reason why I'm pushing for testing instead of the current regime of voluntary warnings is that a fairly large minority of people are potentially epileptic (if they're exposed to the wrong combinations of flashing lights & colours) but don't know that they are. The reason they're latent is that we've had laws to make TV programmes test what they broadcast for years, so most people who are at risk never have their problem triggered off in the first place. The problem is that the laws which apply to TV broadcasters were written before modern games were available, and they don't apply to games even though gaming is just as likely to trigger a fit. I'm told there's some very standard and well-tried software which all the TV companies use which automatically (and cheaply) prescreens anything before they put it out, so it shouldn't be too difficult for them to fix.
I hope this helps.
Yours sincerely,
John Penrose
MP for Weston-super-Mare."
