Gface, Crytek-backed streaming game network, goes into beta

Feb 5th 2012 11:09AM (Joystiq)
This is where the industry is headed. Once publishers saw how much money Steam was making, hand-over-fist, they saw a way to get a nice slice of the pie. You see, providing digital services is easy money for a publisher. They provide very-minimal effort and see a great investment on their return.

EA's Origin was the first major publisher to try this out. Activision has gotten into the fray with their 'Call of Duty Elite' service and now Crytek wants in. This is where we are headed. It would be foolish to think otherwise.

TL;DR: Called it!

@KiDPANDA There's a difference alright. It' just I'd rather play one over the other instead of argue about it online!

SOE gears up for Star Wars Galaxies' closing events

Dec 13th 2011 5:16PM (Massively)
Goodnight, sweet prince.

I was a big fan for about the first two years of the game, for that was before Combat Update AND New Game Experience ruined everything. While this version of Starwars: Galaxies is not the one I fell in love with, it still holds a place in my heart as it was my first MMO and the MMO that I hold others to in terms of quality. I've played them all and none have come close.

I would also be remiss if I did not mention "SWGemu," which has been running the best version of Starwars: Galaxies for years now, pre-Combat Update or NGE and would recommend it for those who enjoyed SWG. Physical discs required, of course(which is why SOE hasn't shut it down) but you can find those in the bargain bin in many places.

Star Wars Galaxies updates players on the end

As my very first MMO, and one that is 'the bar' I hold other MMO's to, in terms of community, camaraderie and, with the unique skill-tree system, player-housing and player-cities, gameplay; you shall be missed.

That is, of course, the first two years before the Combat Update and definitely before the New Game Experience.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't aware that the subscription fees would continue after the Free-To-Play aspect was released. Good to know, either way. I might just subscribe again anyways to see what I've missed in the last 3 years of not playing.

Excellent but when does the game go free-to-play? I want to subscribe a month before and retain all of the 'VIP' benefits! :D
