Rumor: LittleBigPlanet sequel already in the works

I think one thing they can add right away will be different abilities for Sackboys (Sack Persons?).

Being able to jump, hold, and interact with things are great, but what if you could attach powers or abilities to your Sackboy?

I'd like to have a feature similar to Lego Batman where you can switch out suits for various abilities.

I'd like there to also be a feature that let you hold items like shields, swords, or other objects similar to Smash Bros. to take down enemies.

Maybe a mushroom that made Sackboys bigger or gave them invincibility...

I don't know if some or all of these exist... but I haven't seen them yet and I got to see the beta.

It would be great if these features came as patches to the system.

Also, being able to upload your own images created via Photoshop, as well as, music files of your own, needs to be a must have for the next version. It would be nice if those features came in a patch though.

When is Talisman going to be ready for XBLA? Do you have any details on the game?

Any more news about R.B.I. Baseball's rosters or online play would be fantastic.

When is IPTV going to be available?

Is there a resort or bed and breakfast that I can go to on vacationfor a week that would cater to my every whim while I sit in a big comfy chair in front of a 60" HDTV playing all of the 360 games I don't have time to play on a normal basis? I would pay for it. Would you?

Gears of War's Cole singled out as a racial stereotype

Apr 10th 2008 3:55PM (Joystiq Xbox)
It is being critical, your right. Which is 'nit-picking' because my point of view is different from everyone else's. And, everyone else's point of view is different from mine. Sure it might be similar, but it is different, so we pick out the parts we don't like and talk about it.

Not all of us can cure cancer like a doc or scientist, but we can contribute. My point was to get people to aim higher and think of something worth your time.

Now, back to the issue.

Most of the ideas shared by posters to this thread have one thing in common: they are aware of stereotypes. Like or dislike, love or hate, the stereotypes throughout our history that lives in our media simply exists as a means for identification. It doesn't exist to reinforce the stereotype, but as a by-product it does just that.

The poster that described characters that go against stereotypes is right. Those anti-stereotypes are not 'remembered'. They are not relevant, predictable, or related. I can't connect emotionally to something 'anti' or 'foreign' as much as I can with something 'iconic' or 'stereotypical'.

Do I like stereotypes in media? Sometimes. Or, more specifically when its not about something that I share with the stereotype in question. Why? Its viewed as degrading, weak, and close minded. I'm neither of those.

Basically, stereotypes are insults to those that share similarities, but they are also elements for storytelling because of things like deducing character backgrounds, implied history, and general tendencies.

I'm the stereotypical message board poster.

Gears of War's Cole singled out as a racial stereotype

Apr 10th 2008 3:20PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I'd say the stereotypes also target, not just races and character types, but also geographical stigmas.

My home state is Kentucky. I can't tell you how many inbred and ignorant jokes I've heard about people from Kentucky (aka hillbillies).

When I see one portrayed in a game or movie I always think about the many people from Kentucky that are not 'barefoot and pregnant' or 'toothless and redneck'.

The problem is, this will always be a problem in games, movies, and books. You can't create a race, or a heritage, or traits when creating characters from anything other than 'real life'. It is impossible.

THere will always be a representation of every type of stereotype in all our media. Period. Get over it.

Help cure cancer, fight AIDS, or become a Big Brother or Big Sister- just stop with the nitpicking. It is what it is. Sorry.

Today's swing-for-the-fences video : The Bigs

May 20th 2007 2:28PM (Joystiq)
Arcade baseball should be quick, fun, and over dramatic. It should represent the ESPN Highlight reel on every play. Now, where I see that type of game fitting into nicely would be on the Wii. Motion controlled swings, pitches, dives, and throws would bring out a lot of emotion that these games try to portray.

On the other hand the 360's version of 2k7 is great for the baseball sim, but I believe another type of game needs to be explored.

The game I would love to see come to the DS or PSP would be a strategy reminicsent of Strat-O-Matic baseball back in the day.

But until then I'll be giving The Bigs on the Wii a shot. If it comes close to RBI and Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball on the Super NES then it will rock.
