Sandisk crashes Sony's Memory Stick party

Mar 2nd 2006 9:47AM (Joystiq Playstation)
It is really insane when you think about it that SanDisk can better every major company's memory media with faster, cheaper, and more reliable memory. Guess it goes to show what a good company can do if that's what it concentrates on.

How long until the 8 GB stick gets released?

Demo download stations hit NYC

Feb 28th 2006 8:54AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The only thing that makes me sad about the rollout of the download stations is that, like in the case of most mainstream endeavours, small independent stores get lost in the shuffle. I would love for all of the guys who come into the store I work at to be able to enjoy this, but I'm worried that it won't happen.

The only hope for us small stores might be to hack up our own Download & Play station (which has been done after E3 2005 for the E3 demos!)

Replacing an XBOX DVD drive

Feb 16th 2006 10:02AM (Joystiq)
The good and bad of the Thomson drive, while yes, it is the worst quality of the three, it's also the most affordable to attain. eBay typically has these drives for $30, which if all that means is another 2-3 years of life, the bang for the buck is reasonable.

Revol offers unlimited minutes for $47-a-month- with a catch

Ahem! One of the six biggest cities in Ohio but nothing mentioning coverage in Cincinnati? Forget it.

Savitmicro releases PSP-compatible OTG HDD case

Jan 11th 2006 10:43AM (Joystiq)
Just a reminder that this device isn't going to let you play media right off of the hard drive, just be a transfer dock between the hard drive and a memory stick. So you could encode a ton of stuff onto the hard drive and move it over as you need to.

Just ot be clear that this isn't a plug-in-and-go complete solution like the 4 GB hard drive is. :)

CES: DIRECTV starts "Massive Gaming League"

Jan 5th 2006 4:39PM (Joystiq)
The day is probably going to come soon that cyberathletes are making six and seven figure salaries with the increase of these gaming leagues.

My hope is that it doesn't push the small place that does local events right out the door and hinder people from participating in these smaller less competitive events.

Skip retailers, trade games with gamers

Jan 1st 2006 7:06PM (Joystiq)
GameTZ has a great system that has just gone back to a free setup, while I haven't been able to log back into my TradeGamesNow account due to a long set of inactivity ... so no love for them.

I'll give these new guys a look though.

Broken core system? It could be upgraded

Dec 15th 2005 4:51PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I can confirm that a friend of mine got not only a hard drive but an additional component cable to go with it ... so it could be all about what you throw in the box. The particular person whom helped my friend told him to just throw the console in the box, nothing else (he had a core).

Nintendo and Sony line up in support of Xbox 360 launch

Nov 22nd 2005 4:39PM (Joystiq Xbox)
A group of us waiting in Cincinnati were playing Mario Kart DS multiplayer until the system raffle began, got out too late to have a shot at any of the true lines. Mario Kart 8-player is so darn cool!
