The issue is this:

Whether their design choices are sound or not, is not the issue.

As others have stated on here, this is just a domestic version of a Prius, and a more expensive version at that.

Please list these other cars getting 60 mpg that are not hybrids.

And oh, not sure what planet you are on, but on my planet the mini gets 37 mpg on the highway according to their web site.

This thing will sell like hot cakes. Would be nice if Autoblog actually included some interest specs about the car like, from another well known autoblog:

The 1.2-liter or 1.4-liter TFSI either throws down 86 in wimpy form or 122 HP with a 0-to-62 MPH time of 9.1 seconds and EU test cycle 44 MPG. A larger 1.6-liter TDI stirs the pot a bit more with 185 lb-ft of torque, 105 HP and 60 MPG. If you really must, another version of the same TDI squeezes out 62 MPG.

So, hot looking car, 4 doors, and up to 62 mpg. Why would I buy a mini over this again? And who the hell needs a hybrid?

That kind of pricing puts it in the same field as a BMW X3 and Audi Q5.

Farber - another guy who thinks that tow rating = what u can actually tow.

A fiberglass 20 footer with trailer is going to weigh in the 4000 lb range. I'd love to see how well you do towing that with a vehicle rated with a 5000 lb towing capacity.

No v8 option - no off road ability - no thanks. Guess I'll need to find something else to tow my boat with now.

I have never been a fan of domestic vehicles (VW/AUDI fan), but I have to say, Ford has really impressed me in that past year. IMHO they are the only domestic (US) manufacturer that has actually made a valiant effort to truly rethink how they design their cars - and I think they have done very well, and really have embraced technology.

This new synch tech looks fantastic! My only concern is how intuitive it will be to a driver, especially when the car is on the move.

Bravo ford! Although I have a new Audi on order for the wife - the next car I order for myself may just be a ford!
