When did Ludwig K get cast in Resident Evil?

Upcoming patch to expand Duke Nukem Forever's weapon limit [update: 'unlikely' for consoles]

Jul 29th 2011 3:19PM (Joystiq)
This is absurd. A primary reason to limit player inventory (as well as to provide regenerating health) is to let level and gameplay designers balance the user experience in a more controlled environment. If one does not know what weapons or how much health the player has, it becomes risky to provide broader experiences. Hence, Doom plays much better with a full inventory, but Halo would break if the player carried all weapons at the same time.

So what's the use of providing a larger weapon inventory *now*? Unless it is conceded that the level design and gameplay were *not* lovingly designed and that it would be hard to break Duke Nukem much harder than it already is.... But they'd never concede that, right!? Right?

Gears of War 3 behind-the-scenes video (Or, 'the giant curb stomp')

Jul 26th 2011 5:21AM (Joystiq)
I'm a big fan of the Gears franchise, but watching Epic promise story in the third game after a nonsensical first entry and the broken promises of the second....well, that just gives me a headache.

There are so many loose threads in this story that have never been explained or have only been touched on in "expanded fiction."

BioShock Infinite E3 demo video coming July 7, first two minutes right here

@Atonnis I'm not sure I remember the Bioshock 2 hype you're referring to. I think most gamers reacted with skepticism to a non-Levine Bioshock set in Rapture, but ultimately found the game to be surprisingly competent though not ground-breaking. No?

@Gmail Calendar Rep I am EXTREMELY excited for Infinite, so this is tough to say, but this may be pushing the marketing drip-feed a bit far. Somewhere between the 7th "concept interview" and this teaser trailer for a gameplay demo, which is getting it's own TV Special, we have to admit that the machinery of games marketing hype (even and especially highly anticipated follow-ups to well loved games like Bioshock) is a little silly.

@theycallmeRUFFI That's last year's demo....not this year's.

@chocobox What are you talking about? Do you have any evidence that the games industry "paid off" members of the Supreme Court? Like, at all?

Child of Eden review: A momentary masterpiece

Jun 14th 2011 1:28PM (Joystiq)
When i first saw this game, i thought that it looked like a fantastic downloadable game, and I was shocked when i heard that it would be a full retail release. That hasn't changed. I look forward to playing it, but suspect that this will be a bargain bin purchase for me.
