The Chase captured on video

shoyz/ that's an arbitrary thing to say...

I mean, if you can make linerider entertaining, so could this.

I find it rather cute, personally.

DS Daily: RTS vs RPG

Nov 4th 2008 2:04PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
RPG all the way. I like my strategy turn-based and bite-sized.

When I was playing FFXII - revenant wings, I just couldn't bring myself to play entire stages sometimes. Just don't have the time. If I can't save anywhere I want, it'd just end up collecting dust.

My first game ever was Warsong on the genesis, so I'm a bit biased towards the whole turn based strategy game genre as well though...

DSi rejects current homebrew flashcarts

Nov 3rd 2008 1:14AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I dunno...I spend 75% of my DS time reading manga. Another 10% fiddling around on Colors! and the rest of the time on either animal crossing or the kanji dictionary.

right now, the DSi isn't looking very attractive. There should be a way to accept homebrew programs that are not "dumps" of commercial software, but I doubt the market for people who would get a DS for homebrew is so slim that Nintendo just wouldn't care. They'll probably lose less money by preventing piracy.

My Japanese Coach: Konnichiwa and beyond

Oct 30th 2008 11:09PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I have this. After lesson 30, you're on Kana. No more romanji. So yes, if you work hard enough, you'll be able to play your import games.

This game is awesome.

Only complaint: the "speak" mode where you get to hear yourself back? You'd always sound like a chipmunk. I have no idea why. Rosetta stone does the same thing. Maybe I DO sound like a chipmunk.

Chinese coach, on the other hand, I didn't find very useful. Thing is, you can type romanji in and be understood. There is NO WAY you can type pinyin in and be understood. NO WAY.

BTW, I'm Chinese, and I read / write / speak fluently. It's too hard of a language to learn without a bunch of workbooks, lessons, and immersion.

DS Daily: Best bang for your buck

Oct 22nd 2008 2:46PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Picross. I've finished all the puzzles, but there are always news ones on wifi. I pull out professor layton every week. And of course, there's Ouendan. :)

I'm not a replay-er; there just isn't enough time. I wish there were decent point and click adventures on the DS that have more than 3 hours in them, then I'd probably start replaying.

DS Daily: Best place to bust out the DS?

Oct 20th 2008 5:47PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
pink being a girly color is entirely cultural. That is, North American. It's also only rather contemporary. In the post great war era, the convention was actually to dress little boys in pink, and little girls in blue.

Give us another 50 years and pink will be boyish again...

DS releases for the week of October 13th

and in case you want to know more

it has history. :p

I'm so getting this game for sentimental reasons.

DS releases for the week of October 13th

I grew up in HK and "lovely lisa" is like the equivalent of Barbie. Think Barbie with anime influence. Bigger eyes, smaller torso, shorter, more slender, and the clothes are full of lace.

Probably more than you need to know though. :)

Nintendo announces Nintendo DSi

Oct 2nd 2008 3:53PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Hmm, weren't there already games for the DS that supports an external camera? (not North American games) So the fact that it comes with a camera shouldn't matter too much. Technically you can still release the same games with camera support. We'd just have to have a Slot-2 camera attachment, right?

.3 mp though. That's ... ugh.

No word on resolution, and since the hardware hasn't changed, we can't really expect the res to change. So in other words, same number of pixels displayed on a bigger screen. That's another ugh from me.

Well, I was thinking about getting another DS. It won't be available here for another year anyhow.

The DS Life: Vanilla Beans

Love the pilot dancing guy. He's hilarious!

Those girls didn't smile with their eyes even ONCE.
