Epic: Consoles must be 'bleeding edge' in next generation
Mar 12th 2012 4:02PM (Joystiq)I get that the mobile space is moving and moving quickly towards quad-core this and dedicated GPU and HD screens that, but have they looked at console sales this past generation? Everyone owns either a 360 or PS3, or both, and everybody's mother has a Wii. The next Mario won't be on the iPad, it will be on the next Nintendo console. The next gen Halo will be on a Microsoft console. LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted will be on Sony's hardware.
What can you get on the iPad? Angry Birds, Draw Something, Words With Friends, and a slew of titles from a developer who blatantly steals from more popular developers and makes third-rate rip-off titles (ahem, Gameloft, ahem).
Call me crazy but all of this fear and doubt over whether or not dedicated home consoles are going to cease remaining relevant is just ridiculous.

Feb 28th 2012 11:34AM (Joystiq)"Look at the Wii it had almost no triple AAA games at launch it still sold but people were like where are my games"
People are still saying "where are my games", unless they count Hannah Montana's Big Shopping Bonanza as a game.
Exactly why I sold my Wii.

Feb 24th 2012 4:17PM (Joystiq)I'll also add that we've now come down to complaining about how we have to scroll text in a paragraph to read all of the details. Really? If you were reading the product description on Amazon and then stopped half-way because you didn't feel like reading the rest, that also isn't Sony's fault.

Feb 24th 2012 4:14PM (Joystiq)The box says nothing about anything being "FREE". They don't use the word "FREE". The box says "Over $55 Bonus Value, 8 GB Memory Card, AT&T Data Session, and a Downloadable Game with Activation"
The key terms here are "bonus value" and "with activation". My point is they ARE being honest, all of that stuff they list is stuff that you DO get. None of it is missing. When you activate your pre-paid service (meaning, you purchase a month of pre-paid data service), you get another session for free, plus the free game. The 8GB card is already in the box.
See, this is what I'm talking about. People see what they want to see without thinking about it or researching it. Nowhere on the box does it say anything about getting a free session for nothing. You activate your service FIRST, meaning you pay for a month, and then you get the 2nd session at no cost.

Feb 24th 2012 2:11PM (Joystiq)We're just going to have to agree to disagree then. And as much as I'm being down voted here, I still believe that it was clear as day as long as you took the time to read and understand what you were getting into.
There's a mentality among everyone that it's always somebody else's fault. Notice how we've gone from "Sony never told me ANY of this! It's not posted anywhere! I was lied to!" to "Well it was posted everywhere but I couldn't understand it!" Well, that's not really anyone's fault but the people who couldn't take the time to figure it out. You don't just throw down over 300 bucks (tax plus a game or two) in a purchase and then get mad at Sony because you didn't take the time to research.
And even still, I STILL don't see the problem or the need to complain at all here. The 3G model wasn't selling at all, so they added a bunch of incentives. Pay 50 bucks more for the 3G model (which has a GPS chip, which the WiFi model lacks) and you get a free 8 GB card in the box, which you'll need anyway for game saves and downloads. Oh, and if you try out the 3G service for one month, you'll get a free 15 dollar game and the next month of service is on us. It actually is a very good deal when you work it out monetarily in your head. The problem here is that everyone thinks they are entitled to everything for free, and then they get mad when they realize it doesn't quite work that way. You are still getting the 8 GB card, the one month of service, and the 15 dollar game for free, you just need to invest 15 dollars more than you thought. Which is oh such a HUGE deal when you're buying a 300+ dollar system, right? Give me a break.
Terms and Conditions exist for EVERYTHING, especially when it comes to service providers such as cellular and cable companies. You can't expect that these companies are going to hold your hand and lead you to a good deal as these companies exist to make money. It's business. Either you become an educated consumer and research those terms and conditions before you blow a few hundred bucks, or you spend your money blindly and you get what you get. No one's responsibility but your own and I don't see why anyone has the right to complain about it.

Feb 24th 2012 11:38AM (Joystiq)I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend you, but the first time I read that text you posted (which is what has been on every product page since the bundle was announced), I understood it perfectly. "Your promotional 250 MB session automatically starts upon expiration of your 1st session plan, if you have activated the redemption code." Your PROMOTIONAL (meaning free) session (meaning 30 days of 250MB prepaid service) starts automatically AFTER your FIRST session plan (the session you PAY for first), if you activate the code in your account. It's pretty clear to me that they are stating outright that your free session comes AFTER the first one. Even if you couldn't understand that, it goes on to say that after your promotional session (your FREE second month of 250 MB) your account will auto-renew to whichever option you selected for your FIRST month (be it the 250 MB or 3 GB plan) UNLESS you cancel auto-renew, which you can do very easily btw. You could have quite easily inferred and understood what they were talking about if you took the time to read it.
Like I said, people just need to learn how to READ the conditions. And if you read them and still didn't understand them, it was YOUR responsibility to go somewhere (like a forum or the comments section on the PS.BLOG) to ask somebody who does understand it for clarification. Either way, it's not Sony or AT&T's fault that you didn't wisely research your over 300 dollar purchase beforehand.
This is not deceptive in the least. It's not like this was posted in 2 point font under a hard to read background on Amazon's product page. The text was clear as day, right there to read. I'm sorry, but people need to take greater responsibility over stuff they buy.

Feb 24th 2012 11:12AM (Joystiq)the 8GB card came with every 3G bundle, sold everywhere. Not just Amazon. I got mine at Best Buy and still got the 8GB card. So yeah, I'm happy.

Feb 24th 2012 10:50AM (Joystiq)That being said, if you look at the deal rationally, you still come out ahead. Pay 15 for your first month and get your second month free. And then you get Stardust with the DLC for free, so at the end of the deal, for 2 months of 3G service and Stardust you actually come out 15 bucks ahead.
