Capcom: Street Fighter X Tekken DLC on-disc to ensure compatibility

Mar 6th 2012 9:31AM (Joystiq)
It just amazes me how many game companies today still don't understand the DL in DLC.

It stands for DownLoadable Content, NOT Disc Locked Content.

Downloadable Content is additional or bonus content that should be accessed through whatever console's online marketplace and if you have the cash/points to obtain it, you may do so if you wish. Release a free downloadable compatibility update for those who don't want to buy the content but still be allowed to play with/against their friends.

Disc Locked Content is additional/bonus content that should be accessed by beating the game, earning achievements, or some other means of gameplay to acquire the use of the characters/levels/etc. that are ALREADY ON THE DISC. THAT I HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR. AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY ADDITIONALLY FOR to use because this is not an MMO or a subscription or micro-transaction based game, which I would have had to understand and agree to when I purchased the game in the first place.

Until we as gamers can somehow unite and not keep falling for this crap and when we no longer continue to shell out money to these companies, telling them, "YES, PLEASE allow me to pay you more money to shove that red hot fireplace poker where the sun doesn't shine" this will keep getting worse and worse until eventually we're paying these con artists 800 MSP everytime we want to move our character to the left. "Sorry, you need our 'Enhanced Movement DLC Pack!' to make your character move in that direction! Please visit the Marketplace now!"

XBL language filter prevents harmless words from being used in Quarrel

Meanwhile, I was allowed to play "FELLATES" in an online game, which the game itself wasn't expecting to be the anagram. It only had "LEAFLETS" as the solution.

Pwned.

Notch asks community for permission to track player data in Minecraft

Jan 25th 2012 7:35PM (Joystiq)
@Andrew12h This. Exactly this.

Whatever your opinion is on data collection, you have to admit it's much more preferable to be asked if you want to share than to find out 2 years from now it has been collected from you the whole time without your knowledge or consent.

Best Buy thinks Diablo 3 is coming out on February 1, 2012 [updated]

What you don't see is that hiding behind the camera flash reflection on the poster is that it actually says February 1, 2013.

PSA: Xbox 360 Battlefield 3 servers are down, EA 'aware'

Oct 26th 2011 1:32AM (Joystiq)
I fail to understand this. For the last 10 years or so, be it console or PC, I don't remember being able to play a big name title online on day one without having some kind of horrible connection/server issue like this.

Did none of these companies/publishers learn anything from their peers? from their past games that had poor launch day online performance? I mean, we even had a frickin' BETA TEST for server stability and they STILL can't utilize enough equipment to handle the demand. Or did they just underestimate demand?

"We're aware of the server issues"... what gave it away, the 3 million+ pre-orders? Maybe having the appropriate number of servers running in the first place would "correct" the problem. But no, when your next big title launches, you'll just repeat history since you will (again) fail to learn from it.

MDK 2 HD finally coming to PC ... tomorrow

I'm pretty sure I already played MDK2 in HD. I believe it was...

the original PC version of MDK2 at 1280x1024 resolution back in the day.

Activision wins ruling, regains control of ModernWarfare3.com

Sep 8th 2011 12:58AM (Joystiq)
The title of this article is misleading. Activision didn't "regain" control of this domain because it was never theirs. The guy from Florida bought it and registered it legally through GoDaddy two years before Activision considered it. It was under his control. Possession being 9/10ths and all that.

This is just another case of a large corporation with deep pockets using overpaid lawyers to scare, threaten and bully the average individual who can't afford to fight back.

The Florida man who legally owned this domain was using it to express his opinion of Modern Warfare 3 by showing how much he would rather be playing Battlefield 3, which even included at one point a redubbed Monty Python skit. Last I checked, free speech, freedom of opinion and parody are all protected by the First Amendment. I don't see how this National Arbitration Forum can be allowed to rule against that.

GameStop intentionally removing Deus Ex OnLive coupons from retail PC copies (update: GameStop statement and legal outlook)

Aug 24th 2011 1:16PM (Joystiq)
"including the possible legal implications of tampering with a product and selling it as new."

You mean like when GameStop employees gets to take new games home and play them a few days before it goes to retail and then the store sells the opened copy as new? Like they have done for years and nothing has become of that policy?

And my friends wonder why I don't shop there anymore.
