Universal Studios jefe disses Blu-Ray, re-endorses HD-DVD

Sep 18th 2006 12:59PM (Joystiq)
Hey, Phranctoast, maybe you should do your research before you spout off. Toshiba is NOT the only company that makes an HD-DVD player. RCA and Sanyo make HD-DVD players, too, my dear. As well as the fact that The Weinstein Company ALSO backs HD-DVD exclusively.

I have YET to find corroboration on your information of studios that back blu-ray exclusively, save for Sony (Disney is most definitely NON EXCLUSIVELY supporting blu-ray). I also cannot find corroboration for the figures you give for units of HD-DVD players sold, but I CAN tell you with certainty that they are currently oustelling blu-ray by 33%.

Your figure of 1.2 million blu-ray players via the PS3 is surely wishful thinking on your part at BEST - there aren't even going to be that many PS3 units on the market before the end of the year!

Wow, you just make this stuff up, don't you? All you have to do is a little bit of research, hon. Just read a little.

Wii not even remotely region-free

Sep 16th 2006 11:17AM (Joystiq)
I'm really shocked at everyone's blind faith not only in Joystiq, but in NOE's David Yarnton. This guy has been dead wrong in the past before, and yet, spoke as if he knew what he was talking about, all the while saying that Nintendo's American and Japanese camps didn't know what they were talking about and that he didn't know where they got their info. This guy has spread so much misinformation in the past that I can't believe he still has his job.

Wii not even remotely region-free

Funny that all the Sony fanboys (and possibly girls) are blabbing and raving that the PS3 will be region-free...as I recall, Sony raved that the PS2 would be region-free also, and would allow you to "go online right out of the box!", cure cancer, feed starving babies in Africa, save 10 acres of rainforest land a day, and other such tom-foolery that never panned out either.

Get a clue. Sony just doesn't have the balls to yet admit that their system won't be region-free either.

And before you accuse me of Nintendo fangirl-ism...I can't stand the contraption.

Penny Arcade responds to our "hideous editorial," misses the point [update 1]

Roger wrote "Yes, a $200 console would make a big difference as to whether or not Nintendo's console will make into a working class family. $50 bucks is a lot of money when living on the edge."

Roger, I must ask...if a family is, as you put it, "living on the edge"...why would a $50 price drop in a gaming console make a difference? Would it or would it not be unwise for a family that is, again as you put it, "living on the edge" to spend even $200 for such a non-essential item? I seriously doubt that a difference in price of $50 is going to be a deal-breaker on whether or not to purchase a gaming console when you're having trouble with even just feeding your children or paying your rent - that ENTIRE $250 or $200 could be put to better means, like groceries or taking a sick child to the doctor or paying the electric bill. I'm pretty sure that a gaming console isn't really uppermost in their minds when they're thinking of what they need to spend their paychecks on. I'm thinking the Wii isn't really even on the radar of poor families - they have more important things to worry about.

Just some food for thought...

I'm with zero - THIS is your rebuttal?

I feel like I've been assaulted with an avalanche of word diarrhea. Not once, but twice - first for the original blog, and now again with the rebuttal.

VC, please, do us all a favor and take a creative writing class so that you may better learn how to string words together into cohesive and intelligent sentences that properly convey a concept instead of the word salads that comprise your posts.

I'm left to wonder why I still read Joystiq.
