The XBL microtransaction tracker

Nov 3rd 2006 2:36AM (Joystiq)
If you're an Australian you get used to paying through the teeth for any game anyway. We pay the equivelant to US$93 for a single xbox 360 game (AU$120)...

Seems like you lucky Americans get your games with all the paid unlockables for the same price we pay just for the game!

That said, these micro's are even more expensive over here... I can't be bothered adding it up properly but we're probably looking at AU$180 for NFS Carbon with all the unlocks.

There's no way in hell I'm paying that sort of money.

Wii launch window: 32 Wii games, 30 VC games

I remember seeing a 5,000 point card for $50 that included the classic controller... anyone have a link to that?

Today's hottest game video: MapleStory

I wanted Maple Story to be good... I really gave it a chance, but really, after 2 hours of killing mushrooms i couldn't be bothered any more. Soooooo boring and repetitive!

Today's hottest game video

Oct 27th 2006 3:27AM (Joystiq)
I didn't think that took long at all to get to the start menu. Games might be different but these 10 seconds or whatever really mean nothing to me - that's just enough time to insert a disk or sit down and get comfortable.

Don't bother tonight, see Gamestop's Gears video here

Oct 22nd 2006 1:34AM (Joystiq)
I didn't bother watching the whole video - and this is the first video i've seen of Gears of War. It didn't seem very special to my eyes.

I think it's important to realise that everyone making judgements based on this video are well within their rights to do so - the media available right now means that we can't play it to prove one way or another. Don't insult people for forming an opinion based on the video alone - that's what we've been given!

My opinion of this game may well change as soon as I get to play it - and i'm definately going to give it that chance.

From the video alone, i'm not excited. I'm bored. From the various quotes posted above from those who have played it, i'm hoping I agree with you come November.

One last thing - I would love to see a video of the mega-hard setting. I play all my games on the hardest setting and would love to see some of the great AI this game is meant to have.

Still co-op play will probably make it worthwhile, regardless of AI or single player gameplay.

That was shithouse.

Xbox 360 to get DivX support?

Oct 12th 2006 3:21AM (Joystiq)
I use my original Xbox with XBMC for Xvid movies and tv shows far more than i do for games. I'll buy a 360 when they get Xvid and DivX codecs supported properly - that's what i'm waiting for.

TGS 'best of' video roundup, yeehaw!

Sep 26th 2006 11:50PM (Joystiq)
Sorry, with the Doom 3 reference i was talking about the ability to see the information on the device clearly and not having to get a popup on screen. The next sentence about seeing a hand was another comment not related to Doom 3.

I didn't explain that well the first time, my bad.

And you're right Ranaul, I have no idea if the dude must shoot his way out of the room at the end, that was an assumption by me based on the derivative nature of the rest of the game. I could be wrong, and hope that there is another option.

I've heard nothing about Bioshock before this video and again, it didn't impress me one bit.

To each their own, that's why we have such variety in our gaming!

TGS 'best of' video roundup, yeehaw!

Sep 26th 2006 1:23PM (Joystiq)
Bioshock looks terrible, and boring. The guy starts off by saying how they want to avoid all the FPS cliches, then the video goes and shows security bots (ala perfect dark) that can be switched off by a obviously labelled security switch! Haven't we all done that before?

Furthermore, as he's talking about exploration he walks into a bathroom - that's not new, good ol' duke nukem 3d did that! Being able to explore a bathroom even though it's not required to progress doesn't make it anything special. All FPS's are exploritory in nature - that's why all the hidden items and health packs are under stairs and in crates!

Also, if this game is meant to avoid cliches, why does the character get stuck in a 'kill everyone in the room to escape the trap' scenario at the end of the clip?

That entire bioshock video could be completed in a couple of minutes if they didn't stop every 2 seconds to try and show something they consider as special.

Fancy water effects are not enough to save this derivative FPS from the dulldrums of mediocrity.

Also, it's taking a step backwards from Doom 3 with the interface of objects such as the security switch and the vending machine. Why can't we see a hand pushing the lever?

Very unimpressed.

Weird Al, FTW!

That dude that's dancing in the background is a crack up! This video's great!
