It took years of dedicated fan communities and internet complaining, but Lucasarts has really come through for their adventure gaming fans. I foresee spending too much money on games I've already purchased in several forms, but what can I say, I grew up on these games.
It'll continue "working" until June 2010... However,
"Expiration dates – Make sure you plan ahead when it comes to expiration dates. For the RC you will need to rebuild your test machine with a genuine copy of the RC before the beta expires. Dates below:
* Windows 7 Beta – Expires August 1, 2009. Your machine will begin shutting down every 2 hours from July 1, 2009. * Windows 7 RC – Expires June 1, 2010. Your machine will begin shutting down every 2 hours from March 1, 20010."
I'm liking Windows 7 and all, but everyone needs to be clear on how this system works.
Looks pretty cool, however, is it really necessary to mark the right path in bright red? Heck, every Half-Life game has an off-the-beaten-path portion that is not clearly marked, and the vast majority of the fun of Deus Ex was finding sneaky ways into places. I understand that it meters the flow of the game, but still, I'd like to have to think creatively at least a little bit. I'm not sure if I'm willing to trade beauty in a game for the satisfaction of solving something, even if it's relatively trivial.
I was in the Flatirons Apple store in Louisville Colorado (Thought I live in Lakewood/Golden), and they were also excellent this morning. They snuck through one of the other exits in the mall and ran through the line screaming and high-fiving at 8. All in all it was a pretty good time.
