Child's Play shuts down fundraiser aimed at changing Mass Effect 3's ending

Mar 24th 2012 10:46PM (Joystiq)
What I find is that when they find out it was not giving them a new ending to ME3 but was going to charity... they wanted a refund. Geez!

Far Cry 3 trailer goes on a nasty trip, reveals pre-order bonuses

Okay, did anyone start to think that some of the game elements, animations, characters designs and environments feel or look similar to say.. Bioshock? Possibly a former Bioshock designer/modeller moved over to working on this game?

Just saying.

Deja Review: Silent Hill HD Collection

I always said that Dead Space was Silent Hill in space. Maybe with a pinch of Resident Evil spices.

Hudson: 'Your feedback has always mattered' in Mass Effect 3, even now

Waiting on buying this game. Waiting to see what they do with it, or where they go from here. Hopefully they will announce some more future single campaign DLC and not just multiplayer maps.

He did say "This is not the last you'll hear of Commander Shepard." Of course what that means could be a number of things.

1. DLC that continues after the ending
2. ME3 - Sheppard Lives!! games to be released in the fall (similar to what they did with AC2)
3. ME4 or whatever it will be called with do flash backs or resurrect Sheppard onces again and discover Liara is still alive and they both buy a summer cottage by a lake and frolic in the water.
4. Sheppards exploits prior to ME3 will be revealed via comics or novels.

You pick.

I'll keep on waiting to see what comes out for it and maybe pick the game up when a possible GOTY edition comes out..

Silent Hill: Downpour review: When you're strange

Mar 13th 2012 10:38PM (Joystiq)
I will have to admit... after Silent Hill 3 I walked away from the series when others took over its dev. The first three games were the best.

Silent Hill freaked me out and ... was a long game of spine tingling terror with multiple endings to the game depending on what you did. Yep, Mass Effect was not the first to do this.

Silent Hill 2 was great visually and story, although a short game. The hospital with the nurses again... freaked me out. And if you want a good experience you have to get the Greatest Hits disc for the PS2 or the Xbox version so you can play both James through the main story and then play as Maria for a second play through from her perspective.

Silent 3, although maybe not the best was definitely trying to re-capture what the first gave us and tried to bring things back full circle to the original.

IF you can play these games, either having the original discs or the new HD versions with the new audio ( disappointment) then do it before trying the others.

Save on enough Myst games for a full lifestyle change

I always though when URU development had ended, yes I know you can play it for free now, that Cyan should have approached Sony and considered introducing URU as part of Playstation Home. I realize there is more to deving it to work with Home, but it would definitely be a nice addition.

Would be a good idea as much as it may not be profitable to either party.

Official Assassin's Creed 3 site begins snowy countdown [update]

Mar 3rd 2012 6:49PM (Joystiq)
Unfortunately I think I will wait on this one. Not really interested with the US content. Personally I would like to play only as Desmond now since he is the key to whole thing. He has gained his ancestors abilities thus far so we better be giving the opportunity to use them. Somewhat like we die in Assassins Creed Brotherhood at the end.

Still wish they would have focussed on maybe a Victorian era in London or better yet, Paris France.

Anyway, I will let the diehard fans purchase the game first and see what others think. Maybe pick it up used later in 2013. Assuming the world hasn't ended by that time. :0

For now, I am definitely more hyped up about ME3... not AC3.

More Assassin's Creed 3 leakage, this time from Game Informer

Oh for the love of .... Why does everything have to end up with the USA. This has to be a business decision by Ubisoft and not because there is anything interesting about the period.

The beauty of this series was the cultural and historical uniqueness to the game. Granted if you lived in the middle east or italy you know the places depicted in the game. But the USA? Historical sites? in that period? I'll pass this game if thats where we are going. The European/Mid East nature of the game brought alot to the story.

If they are going to pick a revolution that do it France or something with the odd trip to Britain and/ or Germany. But the USA? There are enough games out there that ALL take place in the US in some form of another.

Hopefully the next series after Desmonds story will take us to China or Japan, if Embers was any hint to that. I bet that would be a good business decision for Ubi. :)

Insomniac done with Resistance

Jan 26th 2012 11:54AM (Joystiq)
I guess I will be in the minority. The first Resistance (FoM) was a decent FPS game. I like the narrative which helped in the story dev. My understanding was that the game was rushed so the narrative replaced cut scenes due to time. But it still worked. It was a good mix of World War 2 meets Alien like creatures. Better than the zombie nazi's all the time.... well a little.

R2 had some good elements. Tension and combat but for me it fell off at the end and the end was melodramatic for me.

Not played R3. Will do when I can afford to binge on games again. Assassins Creed series has me bogged down.

Overall, what I have played is a decent enough. Enjoyable. Comparing it to Gears of War series is bad. I played Gears with friends off and on and found it bland and repetitive to my taste. Boring story. Point is, to each their own. Having a variety is what matters, so all of us Gamers have something to play. :) And yes, I am a Halo fan but stopped because the focus in most FPS games now is Multiplayer at the sarcrifice of a decent story. Come on Half Life 3... WE'RE WAITING.

Sorry to see Insomniac drop it but it would seem they game it a try with Sony and Sony had more success with KZ. Good they have parted ways and hopefully excel with their new project.

Skyrim 1.4 detailed, PC 'Creation Kit' for mods coming soon

Jan 20th 2012 9:41AM (Joystiq)
Holy crap! There's a fix list if even I saw one. And this was GOTY? Granted maybe overall With Skyrim is gameplay is larger than the issues, but thats a tall list or issues. I am beginning to wonder if devs are taking on too much when it comes to immersive projects and meeting deadlines and relying on patches after the fact. I think this is a good example.

Hope this makes the game that much more better to play.

Regardless I want to play this game eventually but I will wait for a GOTY Edition with all the patches and dlc in one package. I am glad they took to trying to fix issues this time round compared to Fallout 3 (for the PS3).
