Insomniac done with Resistance

Jan 26th 2012 11:54AM (Joystiq)
I guess I will be in the minority. The first Resistance (FoM) was a decent FPS game. I like the narrative which helped in the story dev. My understanding was that the game was rushed so the narrative replaced cut scenes due to time. But it still worked. It was a good mix of World War 2 meets Alien like creatures. Better than the zombie nazi's all the time.... well a little.

R2 had some good elements. Tension and combat but for me it fell off at the end and the end was melodramatic for me.

Not played R3. Will do when I can afford to binge on games again. Assassins Creed series has me bogged down.

Overall, what I have played is a decent enough. Enjoyable. Comparing it to Gears of War series is bad. I played Gears with friends off and on and found it bland and repetitive to my taste. Boring story. Point is, to each their own. Having a variety is what matters, so all of us Gamers have something to play. :) And yes, I am a Halo fan but stopped because the focus in most FPS games now is Multiplayer at the sarcrifice of a decent story. Come on Half Life 3... WE'RE WAITING.

Sorry to see Insomniac drop it but it would seem they game it a try with Sony and Sony had more success with KZ. Good they have parted ways and hopefully excel with their new project.

Skyrim 1.4 detailed, PC 'Creation Kit' for mods coming soon

Jan 20th 2012 9:41AM (Joystiq)
Holy crap! There's a fix list if even I saw one. And this was GOTY? Granted maybe overall With Skyrim is gameplay is larger than the issues, but thats a tall list or issues. I am beginning to wonder if devs are taking on too much when it comes to immersive projects and meeting deadlines and relying on patches after the fact. I think this is a good example.

Hope this makes the game that much more better to play.

Regardless I want to play this game eventually but I will wait for a GOTY Edition with all the patches and dlc in one package. I am glad they took to trying to fix issues this time round compared to Fallout 3 (for the PS3).

Original Killzone shoots up PSN on January 24

Jan 12th 2012 1:09AM (Joystiq)
Well I suppose I will be in the minority. I enjoyed Killzone when it came out, like the characters, the fact you could choose and change your character as your progressed through the game... once they joined your team. The characters we well developed for the type of game it was and the camaraderie was definitely established and came together at the end. And if the game was really that BAD they would not have bothered with continuing it to the next gen. Sony gave it a lot of faith and support. Good on them.

Its funny people gruped about K2 when it came out because they dropped the original characters and the ones they introduced were just bland and boring. Felt nothing for them. They were just typical FPS characters, very much like Halo and Gears. Boring. BUT the game was great, a step up in play and graphics, just wished I was playing the original four and could choose to play which one I would want as the game progressed. Definitely would have added replay value.

Have not picked up K3 but have played the demo and loved it. Hope the characters are better developed.

And yes, I only play the campaigns, not much for multiplayer, unless there is co-op in the campaign. That would be great.

PlayStation characters say thanks in awesome new ad

Oct 5th 2011 6:55PM (Joystiq)
I remember the teaser with the yellow eyes in the forest background. Wondered what it was leading to. Awesome. Not just for PS3 gamers but all gamers who just love... to play. But really, would it not have been cool if it was KEVIN BUTLER serving behind the bar.... now THAT would have been... geez I think I am going to cry.

Deja Review: The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection

Sep 27th 2011 10:33PM (Joystiq)
Well, I picked up my copy of the Collection. Wow, its nice to see in HD, even if the graphics and previous generation. I can appreciate more the work the ICO team put in to both games.

My only disappointments! The Canadian version of the games DOES NOT come with the reversible cover artwork for the case. Would have been nice and do not see why it was overlooked. Unless out bilingual laws made it difficult for the design.

That said, I bought it for the games and not the case artwork. All I see on my shelf is the spine with titles anyway. Time to go play. :)

Sony Wonder-ful: get a free LittleBigPlanet DLC pack

Sep 27th 2009 8:07PM (Joystiq Playstation)
WOOHOO!!!! Over 30 tries and I finally got one!!! Downloaded and installed. Whew! I guess timing and persistence (pathetic) paid off. All I can say is they either fixed it or if you really want the freebie, keep trying when you have time to waste. :)

Sony Wonder-ful: get a free LittleBigPlanet DLC pack

Sep 27th 2009 2:03PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Well I have tried up to 30 codes and they all say invalid. I checked the letter casing and numbers AND their sequences and still get the invalid message. I guess I should not complain if its free, but this was one of the packs I was interested in, but not really wanting to pay for. Ah well, it would have made me play LBP once again as a viking. It goes back on the shelf. Hope everyone else has better luck. I mean 30 times.... why did I try it for that long. lol.

My other question is why not just make it available for free off PSN say for 3 days? Then close it. Ah well, the redeem code thing for games is starting to bug me. lol. Good luck everyone.

Calling all commenters: Submit your Batman blurb

Aug 25th 2009 11:53PM (Joystiq)
Well, I thought the demo was.. ok, but I also kept in mind it was just the demo. A sample. A taste of the gameplay, its feel and look. Well I could not pass up the the deal here in Canada for $38.98 at Best Buy for a big game as everyone was going about and the critic reviews praising it. Heck there was free DLC for the PS3 as well.

My verdict, well I have only played a few hours and for the money I paid for it... WOW it was a BIG DEAL. I have to say the game went in a direction I did not expect, just thought it would be a lot of shooting or fighting but there seems to be a balance of puzzles and combat. It kept pulling me along and I hard a hard time putting it down.

Two thumbs up for this "now" Batman fan. This would have been great for around Xmas, but who cares now. I recommend the game for this value for sure.

inFamous space coming to PlayStation Home

Jun 26th 2009 10:42PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Yep, I re-downloaded the demo of inFAMOUS yesterday after hearing you unlock Coles costume after playing the demo. Wham. Finished the demo, went on Home and saw the messages that I unlocked 4 or 5 items. I looked in the wardrobe and there they were. Now if we could only download the electrical powers to zap some of the Home people in the Central Plaza. :)

Joystiq turns 5, you get the presents! Win inFamous & Prototype on PS3

Jun 21st 2009 6:06PM (Joystiq)
Well, I do not know the exact date but it was when I purchased my PS3 in late 2007. I came across PS3Fanboy, now Joystiq, when looking for upcoming releases, reviews and industry news.

I have to say I faithfully visit the site almost everyday for updates. Not sure this is a form of addiction or just a habitual routine. Wait, I think thats still addiction.

PS3Fanboy/Joystiq is my main source to the PS3 universe and the articles keep me coming back. Keep the good work coming.

Cheers!
