Just Cause 2 pre-order bonuses revealed in latest trailer

Jan 25th 2010 3:53PM (Joystiq)
Is it just me, or were the pre-order bonuses announced AGES ago (as in, way before christmas) in a different trailer? Complete deja vu here.

Holiday Gift Guide: Hackintoshable Dell Mini 10v

Nov 25th 2009 10:10AM (TUAW.com)
@ Freak Mojo (no idea how to reply to your comment...)

Yeah, there is a download on the dell support page for the original linux that it came with (a dell branded version of ubuntu), but i would think that ubuntu netbook remix would have all the necessary drivers etc (as the mini 10 is a pretty generic netbook). Or you could put windows 7 on it (apparently it runs pretty well).

RE: The processor etc. It runs fine with the stock one, and you can't upgrade in the UK anyway. 1gb also seems to be fine (surprisingly).

I installed Snow Leopard on mine, no need for leopard first (not that you needed to be told that).

I paid a bit extra for an SSD and extended battery, i'm getting 6-7 hours with wifi on and screen on lowest brightness (which is still very bright).

Holiday Gift Guide: Hackintoshable Dell Mini 10v

Nov 25th 2009 9:10AM (TUAW.com)
I bought one to use at Uni. Ordered it about a week ago, came yesterday midday. Had it hackintoshed by 6PM, and then sorted how i like my macs (istat, office etc), and was using it in lectures at 9AM today :)

Absolutely brilliant bit of kit, well worth the money. The UK one doesn't have an option for bluetooth annoyingly, but you can buy them aftermarket. I'd only use it for tethering my iphone, so i'll probably buy the module next time i go away and there's no internet.

Things that i learnt in the process that you lot might find useful -

NBI (netbook installer) is a wonderful piece of software, but is slightly buggy for people installing on A04 BIOS machines, you have to apply the latest stable release (0.8.2 if i remember correctly), then the latest RC (0.8.3 i think...) without restarting inbetween to have bios options stick (and you need to turn off legacy usb support to have sleep work).

Check out the guide on gizmodo for a very nicely written how-to.

Driving along in my automobile, with an iPhone or iPod

Jul 6th 2009 7:41AM (TUAW.com)
I use a sony head unit (http://www.sony.co.uk/product/ica-cd-tuners/cdx-gt111) with a griffin autopilot (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Griffin-AutoPilot-Charger-Connection-iPod/dp/B0010XBHYO/ref=pd_cp_ce_1). Direct audio connection, one wire, charges everything. Brilliant.

I'm holding out for the tomtom dock though, can't wait for that :D

Joyswag: Win one of five 'Halo Wars' demo codes

Probably the best console RTS ever made, uses the halo universe in a way that neither diminishes from the gameplay or the story! 10/10!

iTunes rentals and the system date

Jan 16th 2008 11:21AM (TUAW.com)
Heh, as ryan says, there will be a fix for this.

On an aside (randomly hoping someone can help with this), i tried to access the itunes rentals by changing my store location in itunes. When i do it (this is repeatable by the way) it stops loading the US itunes store halfway through, and then my internet stops working. Firefox tries to load pages for about a minute before doing the standard "page cannot be displayed" error. This also affects mail, safari etc. After a reboot, everything works fine.

As i say, this is repeatable. I'm in the UK and usualy use the UK store if that helps.

And sorry for commentjacking, just thought people may know what is happening (i have googled the problem, and nothing).

Cheers

XBMC being ported to Leopard

Jan 3rd 2008 8:12PM (TUAW.com)
This is fantastic! I used XMBC back in the day, and had it in my car for a while. Brilliant program. I've been looking into front row alternatives recently, and haven't been able to find any good ones. I think this may change that. A combo of RemoteBuddy and XBMC will be very, very, good.

Note for Blizzard: play WoW with a 360 controller

Oct 16th 2007 6:21PM (Joystiq Xbox)
This is nothing new :S I've been using a xbox 360 mouse/keyboard mapper for over a year now, nearly 2. Or does wow block normal mappers? If not, then this is just the same technology with presets for wow.

Halo 3 four player co-op semi confirmed

Jul 14th 2007 10:13AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Is it local 4 player co op? I used to play through halo 1 co op with 2 other mates, and we had to trade controllers all the time, which got irritating (two of us play inverted, and the other plays standard). Being able to play 3 or 4 player co op would rule!!!

Gray Xbox 360 to make an E3 appearance? [update 1]

Jul 10th 2007 10:21AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I think it's either lighting or a dev kit. Most likely lighting. My reasoning - No core in the lineup.

If they were going to introduce a new SKU (NOT a good idea IMO) they would want to show off the whole xbox 360 "family". What sense does 2 premiums, an elite and a new one make? Why not just elite+premium+new one.

Also...grey? Really?
