I guess the HP desktop I'm running 10.5 on doesn't really work. And hasn't worked since it had 10.4.2 on it. Damn. That sucks for me!

Oh, and before anyone gets all mad at me, yes, I'm just using it until I get the funds to purchase an iMac.

The IBM PC turns 25: Engadget's first PCs

Aug 12th 2006 10:22PM (Engadget)
For me it was the Intellevision games console my parents bought our family one christmas. Add on the keyboard and a generic tape desk, and I started learning how to program. At the ripe ol' age of 8, I knew computers would be the future. The first IBM PC came out, but instead I talked my parents into spending their (hard to comeby) $1200 on an Amstrad CPC6128. Not only would it do Basic, but boot it into CP/M and I learnt Pascal. When I had save enough money, at 15 or 16, I bought my own PC. IBM PC Compatable, 80286, 640k, dual 5.25 drives, amber screen and CGA card. That computer had many upgrades over the years. $400 for a 20MEG hard drive. $350 to goto 1meg RAM. which involved pulling chips off the mobo. Today? My home is littered with computers. Dual Xeon XP machines as file servers. XP machines for my wife and kids. OSX on my MacBook Pro and another OSX machine as my webserver. And of course, there is the XBOX (xbmc forever) and the 360. And my son...about every current console, handheld and whatever. Its scary to think that what you hold in your hand is more powerful than what was (not very long ago) an entire floor of "computer" hardware.

Dell has Core 2 Duo laptops in the wings?

Aug 9th 2006 10:06AM (Engadget)
If you follow the link and read, you'll see that the BIOS upgrade is so that the existing laptops can SUPPORT the Core 2 Duo chips. In other words, it doesnt turn your Core Duo into a 2, but makes the laptop (err...firehazard?) able to support a CPU swap.
