iPad Pulse Reader app goes from keynote hero to App Store zero thanks to NYT (update -- it's back!)

I wonder if it would be adequate for them to remove the feeds from it as installed, but allow the feeds to be added by the user. I suspect that would do, but what do I know?

iPhone 4 vs. the smartphone elite: EVO 4G, N8, Pre Plus, and HD2

Jun 8th 2010 8:23AM (Engadget)
Only on Engadget would the decision of which phone is better be based solely on spec numbers. This is especially relevant when talking about digital camera megapixels. You can bump the megapixels up without actually improving the sensor and end up with larger file sizes but the same picture quality. I don't know if the iPhone 4's camera has a better sensor or not as I've not used it yet, but that they say the sensor is better, and they aren't touting 3000 megapixels, that gives me hope. I can't wait to try it out. I use my iPhone 3GS's camera more them my real camera, but the camera in it isn't that great, so if the iPhone 4 has a genuinely and substantially better camera in it, that would be a huge win for me.

@scorpeo plan may be cheaper (I don't know, presume it is), but the overage charges with AT&T's new data plans are pretty reasonable at least. Going over 2 GB costs your $10 per 1 GB. Yeah, if you go WAY over you'd be hurting. So far I've maxed out at 470 MB in the past 6 months on my iPhone 3GS, but with Netflix coming that could change. I'm going to wait and see how much that uses.

iPhone 4: are you getting one?

Jun 8th 2010 8:08AM (Engadget)
The only thing I wish the new iPhone had was a storage bump. I'm probably going to get one and I've done fine with 32 GB, but who doesn't want more space? Then again, I'd much rather have longer battery life, and here it seems to deliver quite well. Not to mention all the other great stuff. I wasn't planning to upgrade as I didn't think I was eligible, but I checked and I am.

AT&T: upgrade to iPhone 4 up to six months early

Jun 7th 2010 4:04PM (Engadget)
@aaronaut I'm not sure why you are stunned. They made an exclusivity deal with AT&T and isn't over yet. There's nothing to be stunned about. It was just wishful thinking. I hope we get other carriers next year, but this year it's AT&T only, just like before.

iPhone 4 first hands-on! (update: FaceTime video demo)

@Student Driver the iPhone 4 does have a noice cancelling microphone - it was shown in the keynote. It has two microphones, one for your voice, one for noise cancellation.

@krishansy the iPhone 4 will be able to do video calls with other phones too... it's just that iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 there is no setup required. At least that's how I read it. In any case it's an open standard, so any phone (or other device) can implement it and share the wealth.

Netflix app headed for the iPhone

Jun 7th 2010 3:51PM (Engadget)
@Magicland I've got the unlimited plan, but I'm very curious to see what kind of bandwidth netflix eats up. As I understand it, it does reduce quality (increase compression) over 3G, so maybe it isn't that bad, but I'll be able to see that in my data usage. In the past 6 months I topped out at about 470 MB. I can't wait to see what it goes up to with Netflix streaming usage. That will determine if I drop to the 2 GB plan to save $5 a month.

@wwing49 the iPad would bring up warnings when you were getting low on allotted bandwidth, so presumably the same thing will happen on the iPhone, but we don't know yet. I've got an unlimited plan, so this isn't going to be an issue as long as AT&T lets me keep that (which, realistically speaking, I suspect they won't forever.)

I'm really looking forward to this. I will put it to good use. I love netflix streaming, and being able to watch movies via it on the train/bus is going to be great.
