Apr 3rd 2009 9:50AM (Joystiq)Mine's been going 2 years, spends more time on than off (seriously), has been dropped down the stairs (in a carry bag) and is still running perfectly, recording TV (onto my nice cheap 500gb laptop HDD), playing games and watching full HD films.
I'd certainly prefer a
Analysts: Gaming on the rise during recession, but gamers choosing more carefully
Apr 3rd 2009 7:03AM (Joystiq)Although my last console was a PS2 with a HDD and HD loader so my games expenses were only rentals (to burn onto my HDD) and free P2P downloads. I'm not proud, but i had a sick PS2 games collection!!!
I tend to spend between £80 and £160 a month on games, it's a bastard on the wallet but i figure you get more entertainment for your buck...
£40 - 1 game - (as long as online MP) - months of play
£40 - 1/4 ounce of weed - gone in a weekend
£40 - 1g coke - gone in an hour
£40 - night out in town - would be a really tight night out, drinks and club entrance far too expensive.
£40 - 2 trips to Cinema - 2 evenings.
£40 - DVD's / Blu-rays - couple of films, couple of evenings.
So uh, yeah £40 goes furthest when spent on games.

Apr 2nd 2009 11:48AM (Joystiq)SCEA: PS2 could steal share from Wii
Apr 1st 2009 5:53AM (Joystiq)The thing is, that our Western culture drives us to buy cheap, be tight and avoid spending extra on better products. This has given the cheap ass errorbox a greater STARTING userbase, but not one that will last.
There will be no price drop, not for a long time, the PS3 is brilliant VALUE. It's not cheap, but it's not cheap. Get it? You really do get what you pay for.
I hope Sony do get a little of the Wii market here, even if just to turn some of the casual wagglers to some proper games, a getway drug. Plus all revenue for the PS brand is a good thing. It's all one brand remember. Sony have multiple income streams for the PS brand. MS only have the one, hence the rapage of their users.
The PS2 is showing off it's 10 year life cycle now. Just to show you where your PS3 will still be in 6/7 years. (it's about 3/4 years old right?) Where's the good old Xbox now? You know, the one that didn't have nearly a 70% failure rate....
PS2 drops to ?99 in Europe, no drop for UK
Mar 31st 2009 10:51AM (Joystiq)We're being screwed by the exchange rate right now.
PlayStation 2 now $99
Mar 31st 2009 10:02AM (Joystiq)As is your errorbox.
Difference is the PS3 is worth way more pennies.
PlayStation 2 now $99
Mar 31st 2009 10:00AM (Joystiq)It's a lot cheaper than 2 or 3 errorboxes, or even one errorbox and a couple of repairs for their RRoD, uh, sorry, I mean the E74.
Or even one errorbox, a HDD, a couple of controller charger packs, a WiFi adapter and a years LIVE.
Trust me, and many other users, you will smile and recognise the value in a week.
In a year, when it's still running perfectly (despite being dropped down the stairs, and spending more of that year on than off) your smile will grow.
At that time you'll look at your collection of top of the range Blu-ray games and films and you WILL laugh at any notion of spending hard earned cash on an errorbox.
i almost bought an errorbox because the PS3 was "too expensive" and i was too impatient, but I said balls to it, splashed out on a PS3 and have never looked back, other than the odd giggle at my mates when their errorboxes die, again, and again.
So yeah, worth every penny.
