The DS Life: A DS Country For Old Men

Sep 27th 2008 7:14PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
That's utterly adorable! It makes me happy to see the NDS being enjoyed by children world-wide. I don't even want to think of how much money Nintendo has made off this thing on a global scale. Good stuff!

Two more new DS games from Level-5?

Sep 27th 2008 7:06PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
LOL at the picture.
Ummm, as far as I know Layton sold pretty well in the US. So, why in the hell haven't they announced the sequel in the US?! Some day...
Also, a Professor Layton Anime would totally Rock! If it was done by the Miyazaki team, it would fit the Art style like a glove. NO CG though. Just hand painted, like the game. I think western game movies have really tarnished the concept of movies based on games.

DS Daily: Arino's Challenge

Sep 27th 2008 6:55PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I am sure the translation is taking a while because of the RPG (which is somewhat lengthy), and the added in-game manuals and phony magazine guides that remind me of early Nintendo Power. As someone who's first game was Contra on the NES, this is gonna be a Nostalgia fest I wouldn't miss for the world!
But, I doubt it will sell. I have seen a few untranslated eps of the TV show on youtube, and it was highly entertaining just watching the games destroy poor Arino. Watching him try for hours to get past the Red Arihman was priceless. Here's hoping someone brings this show over subtitled, as I would buy them all.

My Japanese Coach needs a release date coach

Sep 26th 2008 5:06PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I am so happy that this is being released, albeit late. The Spanish Coach was a great tool for learning spanish. Having taken years of spanish, I wish I had it back then. It looks like the same thing only with Japanese. And to the person saying there is only Romanji, I suggest you look at a few more shots than just the first two. I believe you WILL be able to learn some Japanese with this. Sure, the language experts might scoff at it for whatever reason, but its a great place to start. Probably a great suppliment to standard classes. Also, "Tadashii Kanji Kakitori-kun" is not friendly for someone who is just starting.

7th Dragon is Sega's umpteenth DS RPG

Sep 26th 2008 4:27PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
This sounds like it might actually be cool. But you know what would be even cooler? Phantasy Star V with awesome 2D visuals, and classic gameplay, on the DS preferably. No more online stuff please. I mean, if Sega wants to make some real money, this would be great for them. I am not even crossing my fingers on this happening though. Instead we get Sonic Chronicles. (which I am actually kind of enjoying)

Retro Game Challenge keeps the spirit of the original

Sep 26th 2008 4:18PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I played a little of the import. The games feel like they could have actually come out on the NES back in the day. They are very well made, and feel authentic. The fact that the games even come with their own instruction manuals and box-art is awesome. Can't wait to play this one in english, because the RPG game stopped me in my tracks.

Outrage! UK media up in arms over DS games

Sep 26th 2008 4:10PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I am honestly offended by the inclusion of the drug selling mini-game in GTADS. Specifically the hard ones. Adding something like that isn't mature, it's irresponsible and tasteless IMO. Especially on a "mostly" family friendly system like the nds. Although, if it had just a weed selling mini game, I would be all over that though.

Items of Import: Rhythm Tengoku Gold

Aug 9th 2008 2:18PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I would buy the import without hesitation. (I did) This isn't like any of the other rhythm games we are used to. Every level is it's own little game, and the songs are insanely addictive. When you actually master a level the sense of accomplishment is fantastic. Especially when they seem impossible at first.

Point/Counterpoint: The worth of Chrono Trigger DS

Aug 9th 2008 2:12PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I think Chrono Trigger is one of my all-time favorite games ever. But, I am not impressed that it is receiving such a bare-bones release. After playing FF IV DS I might have been a little spoiled and expected more from SQUENIX. They should have waited a little longer and made a complete overhaul. I will probably still buy it, with hope that they actually make a true sequel for DS sometime later.
Also, $40 is a bit too much IMO.

Rhythm Heaven looks heavenly

Jul 25th 2008 12:09PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The GBA version is one of my favorite games of all time. The sense of accomplishment for beating a difficult level is unparalleled. Everyone must buy this game!
