"the loyal fans buy mario, zelda and metroid (good games). The casual everyday gamer buys wii music, wii fit, every add on device, and crappy shovelware"
And some of us buy all of them. *shrugs* You can't divide us all into two simple categories like that. I have every system and play the crap out of a number of so-called hardcore games while still enjoying a number of casual games. I think elitist gamers are trying too hard to fit a certain image which reduces their authenticity. Just have fun. That's the point, right?
But seriously...the loyal gamers buy one kind of game and the casual gamers buy another? You seriously can't imagine a loyal gamer *gasp* buying a Wii Fit? Come on. This is like listening to my PC gamer friends saying that's the only platform "real gamers" will use, when the only game they played for two years was World of War Craft. Expand your horizons.
