The Rhythm Of The Quest in Fallout 3 and New Vegas

Feb 2nd 2012 10:48PM (Joystiq)
DLC that takes away everything from your character doesn't belong in the middle of a game, it might as well be its own game. It plays differently because it isn't really part of the game. I find it jarring to be tossed back into the main game after wandering into DLC during the game while playing a Game of the Year version, where you're more likely to play it as you go instead of separately, like someone playing the brand-new game would.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD coming Q2, see Munch's new model

Did the Abe games ever come out in HD? I never played any but the beginning of the first one, and Stranger's Wrath, I'm not sure if I'd like them more now or not.

In defense of Xenogears

Jan 6th 2012 7:12PM (Joystiq)
I remember liking Xenogears, but I don't remember the end shifting so much. Weren't you in a ship full of gears at the end, or something?

I think Xenogears must have been one of the last JRPGs I played, after devoting tons of time to them from the NES to the Playstation. I played a few on PS2, but Final Fantasy lost me at 8, and I can't remember many others after that. I even gave up on Dragon Quest after playing up through 5 on DS, the thought of doing the same thing again in 6 just didn't entice me.

Journey: Behind the Music

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! I'd rather just hear the music while playing the game! Why aren't I playing the game right now?

12 Days of Joyswag: PlayStation 3D Display, 3D PlayStation 3 games, Air Flow controller

My gaming room has plenty of windows that are always open, so it doesn't usually smell too bad, unless neighbors' smoke is drifting in.

What motion controls could do for JRPGs

Dec 16th 2011 8:02PM (Joystiq)
@Faceless Troll
Dawn of Sorrow used the stylus once in a great while, after boss fights, and trying to hold the stylus while playing a boss because you needed to use it quickly in order to finish off the boss, or else you had to keep fighting till you got it right, was hard to do. It's a cool idea, but a controller that's only necessary once in a while doesn't work so well. You either need to use it the entire game, or have to stop the usual controlling parts to pick up the other controller, then start playing again, which isn't ideal.

I think an entire RPG with motion control is a bit too much, but only having sections with motion controls would be too stop-start. I have no problem with motion controls themselves, but they don't seem to fit into games as we've known them for at least the last couple of generations.

Rock Band Weekly: Queen 9-pack

I already own the Queen songs I want. I wish they'd give me some Genesis, from any era, or preferably from every era.

Prepare to be psychologically overburdened by Skyrim's fully detailed locations map

Nov 28th 2011 10:17PM (Joystiq)
Wandering around discovering locations is one of my favorite things. I spent so much time in Just Cause 2 just gliding around finding all the locations before I bothered doing anything necessary. I can't wait to start Skyrim, after I finish AC Revelations and Saint's Row 3. Hopefully it'll be all patched and ready to play by then.

Redeem PS3 Saints Row 3 online pass, get free Saints Row 2

I played Assassin's Creed and Saint's Row 2 without trophies, so getting them again still with no trophies doesn't do me much good. But I can't complain about companies giving away old games, just because I've already played them.

PSN's classic JRPGs: What holds up?

Nov 11th 2011 3:57PM (Joystiq)
I played a lot of JRPGs from the NES to the PS1, and don't remember disliking very many of them. Once we got into the PS2 and later it got harder to take a lot of the tropes, though, and I haven't played very many since. I've loved Suikoden since the beginning, but I wonder how I'd feel about a new one?
