Competition breed innovation - both services are only going to get better. Plus, I cruise both and submit articles to both. Certain links will do better in different crowds, and they serve up a different helping of "what's hot" online, which is why I check them out in the first place.
This way, if something slips by Digg unnoticed, there's actually somewhere else to check.

The problem with doing things on the edge of a new technology, though, is that if you think of something new but you aren't as good at telling people about it first, you can lose out on "creativity points" (think Google v. Overture).
