Microsoft "confident" in shipping 10 million 360s by Q4
Oct 29th 2006 1:29AM (Joystiq)You dumb ass Bill Gates wannabe stop being such a microsoft whore. ms has missed all their targets, let's see, 3 million sold in 90 days they actually sold 3 million in june, 5.5 to 6 million installed base by june it's the end of october and they have shipped 6 million and maybe sold 5, 10 million before the PS3 launches not even close. And you say they almost never miss their targets, Bill Gates got a lot of whores he doesn't need you. The 360 will not sell more than 1.5 million ,and that's being generous, worldwide this holiday season. The PS3, the wii and the PS2 will run away leaving the 360 in their dust.>>
Read my posts again fatass, it's all in there. They have made EVERY target, with the possible exception of "2.75-3m in 90 days".
Bill ms doesn't like you, take Bill Gates cock out of your mouth and stop being such a bitch.
10m before the PS3 launches is still probably going to be accurate. They have to ship the entire holiday supply by mid-Nov, as I already explained. It takes 4-6 weeks to ship by boat, as I already explained.
MS never misses their publically stated financial statement ship targets. That is why you can be sure 10m by Dec 31 WILL happen. The 10m by PS3 launch was just Peter Moore talking, not a official target.
For example, they predicted 4.5-5.5m by June 31. They ended up with 5m. That's what I'm talking about, they dont miss.
You dont know shit so shut your mouth.
Halo 3 info leaked: new weapons, vehicles, features & Collector's Edition detailed [update 1]
Oct 28th 2006 7:47AM (Joystiq)Meh, downgraded MGS is ugly.
Killzone, we have no idea what that looks like, as no gameplay has been shown.
Heavenly Sword is pretty impressive, yes, but also lack in some area (anti-aliasing) and has been downgraded a lot from the target renders. Lets wait til final build on that one, but at least it has some ingame credibility that looks good.
FF, bleh. It will be nothing but punch a button and look at this half hour CG movie, and it will probably be on rails with prerendered backgrounds like the other FF games, so who cares if it looks "great" it doesn't contain any real gameplay.. That franchise is just so bad now.

Oct 28th 2006 4:55AM (Joystiq)"Before our competition even enters the marketplace, we will have a 10-million-unit head start with Xbox 360," said Microsoft boss Bill Gates"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4756645.stm>>
Basically correct. They will have shipped that many or close to it (they have to ship the whole Christmas sales by about mid-Nov, because by boat they take 4-6 weeks transit to reach stores)
>>"by the end of their fiscal year in June, 2007, between 13-15 million consoles worldwide are forecasted to ship."
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/11557/Xbox-360-Sales-Figures-Update-and-Forecast/>>
Definitly likely. Remember they are gunning for 10m by Dec 31.

Here it is since you seem not to have much knowledge of this. Cumulative shipped 360's by quarter end date (all this is publically available in microsoft financial reports, where they (or any company) most definitely not allowed to lie os the SEC will destroy them:
Dec 31 05: 1.5m
End march 06: 3.2
End June 06: 5m
End Sep 06: 6m
End Dec 06 ??? (ms target=10m)
End March 07:???
End June 07:??? (ms target=13-15m)
So you can see the only really hard thing they have to do is ship 4m worldwide this quarter. Considering this is the busiest sales time of the year obviously, I'm sure they'll do it. MS almost never misses targets.
Microsoft "confident" in shipping 10 million 360s by Q4
Oct 28th 2006 4:55AM (Joystiq)http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/257197_msftearns26ww.html>>
And they did. As of June 31 they had shipped 5m. Another success for MS.
>>"Moore predicted that Xbox 360 sales would reach 10 million units before the end of the console's first 16 months at retail"
http://www.cnet.com.au/games/xbox360/0,239035744,240055502,00.htm>>
That's a no-brainer. The only question is will they ship 10m by Jan 1 2007. 16 months would be 3/22/07. They will easily ship 10m by then.
>>"Microsoft's Xbox 360 will sell 11 million units by 2007"
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=120815
>>
This didn't come from ms I promise that. They have never stated that. So it's irrelevant. It looks like they will end up at 10m, so no, 11m wont happen (although it'll be close)
>>"might even hit as high as 12 million by year’s end. Microsoft’s own figures put June sales at 4.5 to 5.5 million.">>
Not going to be 12m, again will be 10m which is what ms has said all along.

Oct 28th 2006 4:54AM (Joystiq)>>"initial goal of shipping between 1.5 and 1.8 million units worldwide by the end of December"
http://www.xb360info.com/xbox/news/249>>
And they shipped 1.5 m by Dec 31. Projection met.
>>"Microsoft is maintaining its pre-launch aim of selling 2.75 to 3 million Xbox 360 consoles in the first 90 days "
http://www.xb360info.com/xbox/news/249>>
Not entirely sure about this one, but most likely also a success. They had shipped 3.2m total by the Q ended March 31 2006. Now, I guess that makes 2.75m shipped by 90 days (2/22/06) possible. Although, it seems unlikely, it was probably pretty close.
>>"The company now expects to sell 2.5 million Xbox 360s worldwide within the first 90 days"
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/257197_msftearns26ww.html>>
As we've shown in the previous example, they probably did hit that goal.

Oct 28th 2006 4:52AM (Joystiq)As opposed to Sony, where we're still waiting for our "Spring 2006, for sure" PS3 and, "yes, Killzone is realtime, absolutely".
It's looks to me like your common theme that is actually somewhat accurate (not the other crap) is MS missed on there early (first three months) projections do to supply problems. problems. Oh well, it happens. Sony has already downadjusted their's about 8 times as well (remember it was supposed to be 4m PS3's WW in by Jan 1, now they're stating it may be half that).
Most of your other ms sales projections links, which are apparantly supposed to be assumed incorrect, are actually correct. Remember that to ms (and Sony for that matter) shipped is reffered to as sold. Because they are sold from the company point of view, as retailers have already paid for them.
Video games and batteries drag Sony down
Oct 28th 2006 4:11AM (Joystiq)Sosuke, what are you talking about? Howard Stringer, CEO of Sony announced Sony would be firing 10,000 people in the next year. This is 7% of their workforce. They are closing 11 factories as well. Do a google news search for "howard stringer + workforce" and you will see various articles about this.>>
That's what they hired Stringer to do. I read this fascinating thing, in Japan it's all this honor stuff, and employees are not supposed to be fired, etc. Well, what Japanese companies do to get around this is hire a foreign CEO. He's not expected to behave to the same honor standards, and therefore it's acceptable for him to fire a bunch of people and nobody loses face. That's why Sony hired Stringer, they badly needed painful layoffs, and that way they do it without losing face.
Heh, stupid fucking Japanese.
I find it most interesting though that Sony's game division is churning out losses that would make Microsoft blush. $369 million loss in one quarter, and they haven't even started producing PS3's yet! There are four quarters in a year so Sony is on pace to lose close to two billion dollars in gaming in a single year. Microsoft is constantly ridiculed for having lost around 5 billion in 5-6 years in the industry. Interesting how the media and forum posters ignore this though.
It highlights just how stupid Sony was to waste billions on custom designing the flop of Cell. That R&D is just hitting them for hundreds of millions of dollars, all for a useless junk chip called Cell that developers hate, and has shown no added power in games to date over the CPU in Xbox360.
MS's Xbox division only lost 96 million btw, (compared again to Sony's 369 million) this past quarter. That's what lots of people ignore when they talk about the billions ms lost. That was only because the Xbox was built on a terrible business model. That model was totally changed with 360 and it appears to already be paying off. The xbox 360 business should be profitable as soon as next year. Whether or not it gains market share, the argument that it's a failure because it loses billions is unlikely to be viable.
Japanese hardware sales, 16 October - 22 October: constructive edition
Oct 28th 2006 3:32AM (Joystiq)After that, it looks like the DS no longer sells 150 k on a "normal" week anymore, but has dropped to about 120k baseline. We'll see if that continues to fall (is likely imo)

Joystiq hands-on -- Resistance: Fall of Man
Oct 25th 2006 12:30AM (Joystiq)This guy just admitted that he quit playing. Quit playing. Gets a rare chance to play the mighty PS3 for a few precious minutes, and he quits and walks away.
I just get the impression both motorstorm and Resistance aren't fun.
Also, the graphics of Resistance got better for a while there, improved, but that has definitly stopped. The final graphics are in and they're..ok..
