XFPS lets you use keyboard/mouse on the 360
Nov 27th 2006 10:23AM (Joystiq)Everyone knows that it'd give people an unfair advantage in any shooter. That's a big reason people like console games online, it levels the playing field (with the exception of HD vs. SD and Surround vs. Stereo).
Metareview - Call of Duty 3

They are trying to get away from the 7-9 scale that we've all been use to from IGN and the like forever. Basically on that old scale anything below a 7 was unplayable and anything above a 9 was perfect. However 1up decided it was silly to do it that way and are going to use the full scale. At 1up 6.5 (they just made this change a month or two ago so don't dig up old reviews please) is probably more like an 8.5 on the IGN scale. It's still a good score. The problem is that it looks stupid on metacritic.
First Gears of War reviews roll in
Nov 7th 2006 1:06PM (Joystiq)He pointed out all the possible reasons to not give it a ten. Saying that if you look hard enough you can always find some reason to not give it a ten. Lets also remember that 1up is trying to get away from the point scale of giving thing 9.6 and other such garbage. Is there really any difference between a 9.4 and a 9.6? No, it's pretty much just subjective.
On 1up's scale of 5,6 being average 7,8 being good, and 9,10 being great he obviously felt this game was a 10, and not a 9 when those were the only two options available to him.
Lets also not forget that Dan Hsu was the man who inspired this penny-arcade comic:

Calling him a shill is a bit of a stretch.
Red Steel developer's blog goes live
Jun 30th 2006 9:57AM (Joystiq)My idea for a solution would be to incorporate some sort of balance or punishment for over movement. So if you moved your wiimote way out of sync with the monitor (tv, etc..) your character might stumble a bit then the game would reward you with a quick and possibly painless death. I think from a game mechanics stand point it would work pretty well.
At anyrate bring on the free motion light gun games. That will truly be an experience that only the wii can offer.
