Don't call it a remake: Final Fantasy X is a 'remaster,' to be clear
Feb 6th 2012 10:52AM (Joystiq)7, 8 and 9 have already been re-released on PSN. (at least in Japan, as far as I know)
Prepare yourself for Sonic Boom 2012 at SDCC
Feb 5th 2012 3:13PM (Joystiq)Yes, they could have. But they haven't. Deal with it.

Feb 5th 2012 10:13AM (Joystiq)I know, right? I mean, it's not like the games are getting any better... oh wait
Egoraptor's Sequelitis analyses Super Castlevania IV
Jan 30th 2012 6:51AM (Joystiq)Like I said before, this sense of choice is false. The level design was based around the items, but the whip is so overpowered you never really need them.
It's like going agaisnt a zombie horde using an AK47 with infinite ammo and a knife. Sure, you can use the knife if you feel like it, but why bother when you have something much more effective.
He's not being whiny. He said he thinks the game is good.
The moral of the story is: SC4 spent too much time trying to be like the original CV that it missed the opportunity to truly shine on it's own.
Egoraptor's Sequelitis analyses Super Castlevania IV
Jan 29th 2012 12:49PM (Joystiq)That's part of the point. Why be given the choice between items and whip when clearly the whip is only ever needed at any given time.
The items are absolutely pointless on a gameplay standpoint. Like he said: the items are only for the sake of consistency.
Also, the level design was mainly designed around the items, so that alone pretty much nullifies your sense of 'choice'.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 review: Fixing the past
Jan 28th 2012 6:04PM (Joystiq)If SE stops trying to re-invent, they will be critisized for not trying to push forward inovation - which is something that FF was always known for.
Sorry, not every FF succeeds, but you can't blame them for not trying something new everytime.
I don't want FF to be like CoD, thank you.
Ono: Fighting games should have more customization, user creation
Jan 27th 2012 6:07AM (Joystiq)I may be a sucker for anything with RPG elements in them, but Dissidia was the only fighting game I cared about this last decade.
I'm not saying the big series like SF, Tekken, MvC and SC are bad in any way, but the latest releases are essentially tweeked versions of their predocessors.
I think Dissidia was really underappreciated for all the inovation it presented.
Game Music: Enhancement Through Limitation
Jan 25th 2012 4:24PM (Joystiq)I was actually referring to video game music and not music in general. xD
Other than that, yeah, I agree with you.
Game Music: Enhancement Through Limitation
Jan 25th 2012 1:22PM (Joystiq)Many developers today hire 'normal' composers with no background or understanding in video game's history.
On the other hand, the games themselves have changed, so music changed accordingly.
I love me some catchy VG tunes, but listening to Bloody Tears while playing Silent Hill doesn't really help the experience.
And it's not like catchy tunes were the norm back then either. Catchy music is just as rare today as it was back in the day. The main reason we think they were so much more common is because we only bother to remember the good ones.
Resident Evil 6 announced by Capcom, arriving November 20 on 360/PS3 with PC version later
Jan 19th 2012 7:48PM (Joystiq)That was mostly because of the crappy graphics. Since everything was much more unrealistic on both the visuals and movements, it all made everything go further down the uncanny valley, making them much scarier then all these pretty photo-realistic monsters we see today on most games.
