Final Fantasy XIII-2 review: Fixing the past

Jan 28th 2012 6:04PM (Joystiq)
@PhiloSirus

If SE stops trying to re-invent, they will be critisized for not trying to push forward inovation - which is something that FF was always known for.

Sorry, not every FF succeeds, but you can't blame them for not trying something new everytime.

I don't want FF to be like CoD, thank you.

Ono: Fighting games should have more customization, user creation

Jan 27th 2012 6:07AM (Joystiq)
I personaly think this line of thinking is all thanks to Dissidia. Which is understandable, considering all the customization it allowed.

I may be a sucker for anything with RPG elements in them, but Dissidia was the only fighting game I cared about this last decade.
I'm not saying the big series like SF, Tekken, MvC and SC are bad in any way, but the latest releases are essentially tweeked versions of their predocessors.

I think Dissidia was really underappreciated for all the inovation it presented.

Game Music: Enhancement Through Limitation

@Electrium

I was actually referring to video game music and not music in general. xD
Other than that, yeah, I agree with you.

Game Music: Enhancement Through Limitation

Jan 25th 2012 1:22PM (Joystiq)
While I do agree that today we have an overall decrease in standard as far as making memorable melodies, I think it all goes down to the type of game and the composer.
Many developers today hire 'normal' composers with no background or understanding in video game's history.

On the other hand, the games themselves have changed, so music changed accordingly.
I love me some catchy VG tunes, but listening to Bloody Tears while playing Silent Hill doesn't really help the experience.

And it's not like catchy tunes were the norm back then either. Catchy music is just as rare today as it was back in the day. The main reason we think they were so much more common is because we only bother to remember the good ones.

Resident Evil 6 announced by Capcom, arriving November 20 on 360/PS3 with PC version later

@arrrgh

That was mostly because of the crappy graphics. Since everything was much more unrealistic on both the visuals and movements, it all made everything go further down the uncanny valley, making them much scarier then all these pretty photo-realistic monsters we see today on most games.

Dungeon Fighter Online for XBLA gets much longer name, new trailer

The only reason I haven't played this game yet, it's because it's restricted to the US and Canada only. ¬_¬

Rumor: Mega Man X iOS hides 25th anniversary logo

Jan 11th 2012 9:00PM (Joystiq)
As someone who is studying Graphic Design, I have to say: that anniversary logo looks horrible and uninspired.

Megaman deserves better... (and I'm not talking just about the logo)
I need my Megaman platforming fix. Where is ZXA's sequel?

FFXIII-2 first week sales roughly a third of FFXIII's first week sales

@(Unverified)

It's true that the battle system almost seemed like an after-thought during the first hours of the game.

But during the later parts of the game, battling the strongest enemies with all characters maxed out managed to provide me with more thrill and excitement then any other RPG in a long long while. And I mean that.

The battle system itself was great. The problem was that it only felt rewarding and worthwhile during the later parts of the story (except for the bosses, the bosses were awesome). So the problem, really, was poor pacing.
