WRUP: All the Reckoning
Feb 11th 2012 10:44AM (Joystiq)And a side helping of Super Mario 3Dland.
Now Playing: February 6-12, 2012
Feb 7th 2012 7:23PM (Joystiq)I didn't mean RPG is ONLY those, but if you aren't willing to accept the only reason a genre exists... You have problems.
Both of those fall into the realm of fantasy still, as in it's a fictional world. They just aren't high-fantasy. Considering Star Wars is commonly referred to as Sci-Fantasy, and all the special abilities in ME are basically a different way of saying "the force"... Fantasy is appropriate.

Feb 6th 2012 6:44PM (Joystiq)RPG stands for role-playing game. As in fantasy, orcs, trolls, pantheon's of gods, twenty-sided dice, magic, and heroism. How can there be a level of non-nerdiness to any RPG?
Don't call it a remake: Final Fantasy X is a 'remaster,' to be clear
Feb 6th 2012 1:52PM (Joystiq)Sorry, can't read your message. It's too whited out. I think you were crying about how not every game is catered to you specifically.

Feb 6th 2012 11:28AM (Joystiq)Port is moving it from one system to the next. They are rendering the game over again, redoing the sound system for uncompressed 7.1 surround sound. That is officially what it means to "remaster" something. Why would you not call it a remaster?

Feb 6th 2012 11:23AM (Joystiq)It doesn't just change the internal viewport, they rebuild the game. So while Tidus' character model may have 30,000 polys before, since the resolution is tripling they increase the model's polys to 90,000. So no, they're not just changing the viewport or upscaling. They are rendering the entire game in an HD resolution. If it worked the way you said, my SotC PS2 disc would just look the same as my HD Collection PS3 version. It doesn't, not by a long shot. On top of that you have massively improved frame rates.
And that's just the visuals. The soundtrack will have to be remastered for uncompressed 7.1 surround sound as well.

Feb 6th 2012 11:18AM (Joystiq)I think you're strongly mistaken. Many, many people would enjoy FFX redone. It's a great game, the sphere grid was fun, and the characters were really well done. What's not to love about it?
Although if I were to have any FF remade with an HD treatment, I'd have to say FFXII. And include some DLC worlds to explore, new dungeons, etc. Loved 12.

Feb 6th 2012 11:01AM (Joystiq)7-9 have pre-painted backgrounds instead of 3D environments, so you'd have to redo the image entirely. You can't just upscale a pre-rendered image or drawing without distorting it. Plus with the geometry of the models, there is really only so much you can do. In short, a lot more work would have to go into them than say redoing FFX or Kingdom Hearts.

Feb 6th 2012 10:59AM (Joystiq)Aside from that - Just wish they'd date this so I'd know when to save money for a PSV. Having a portable FFX would be amazing, got so much play out of FF7-9 on my PSPGo already. Would love to continue that.
WRUP: Super Puppy Bowl
Feb 4th 2012 9:09AM (Joystiq)Usually its less about watching the game and more about hanging with people, grubbing on snacks and making inappropriate jokes all day. Maybe that's just my circle though...
