CES 09: DC Universe Online developer walkthrough

Jan 16th 2009 5:52PM (Joystiq Playstation)
The city looks great - buildings, trees, roads, etc. but the mindless pedestrians ruin the 'atmosphere'. Why not have the city succumb to a massive invasion of sorts, like in Marvel with Onslaught. Most of the civilians have abandoned the city or are in the process thereof -- pandemonium and mayhem -- excitement.

It looked so dull. Those pedestrians need to go, or at least brought into the fold of some overarching story of sorts. Freeze them, turn them into flesh-eating mutant zombies, anything ... really.

The 'physics' stuff that he's droning on about is also vapid and uninspired. The moment that car became translucent it failed to evoke any excitement.

The action / combat sequences obviously need to be improved -- even The Force Unleashed does a better job.

The 'magical' effects were pretty decent on the other hand -- big improvement on typical special effects employed in such games.

Final Fantasy XIII won't hit global market until at least April 2010

While I can't resist quality games, I'll wait until it's in the bargain bin, it's not adding anything to the PS3 line-up anyway.

rofl, it's a Beta after all. At least they brought it out before Christmas in the year 2008 - which is something. :P

This video is even worse than the greying comb-over guy with his psp commentary.

PixelJunk Monsters coming to PSP

It appears to be a cross between a wig and a comb-over - can't decide.

Philosony: Give a sackboy a level and he'll play for a day...

Uh, yeah. Two players can play at once, just turn the second controller on and a second sackboy should appear. This includes online play.

Anyway, I agree with you on the costume nonsense. LPB isn't - and shouldn't try to be - gaiaonline. And 1.95 euro for digital fluff is a slap in the face.

The LPB servers are terrible though, and the time-synching visuals are sloppy -- reminds me of PC-gaming. Isn't that why we bought consoles? To enjoy a problem-free, seamless gaming experience?

rofl, Is this the medieval version of J-anime mecha? I'm still waiting for some selling point of sorts for those uninspired super sentai-esque looking mystical battle armors.

And the character design of the main characters is also rather drab. Still, the gameplay, story & action could salvage the project from the familiar trappings of J-mediocrity.

Someone explain to me why they don't have killer lag, dozens of freezes and a host of time-warping glitches? My internet connection is above average, installed all the updates (mandatory) yet I still can't find a decent game online.

It takes like a minute to log into a single game, upon which the gameplay itself is reduced to a time-warping frenzy. That is, if the connection is at all established with the host player -- which is a 33.33% percent chance. I can't even find online players in the media molecule levels. wtf?!

I'm sorry to say that I'm no longer playing LBP -- finished all the levels (without losing a life) and obtained all the solo-accessible items. It's too much of a chore.

New Resistance 2 commercial asks you to resist

After that viral marketing campaign this is just pitiful. Why not utilize some bit-sized chunks from the viral with Katee Sackhoff. (Not that I've seen them all, but still... Starbucks.)

Can you use any air vehicles in R2? That Warhawks demo kind of pulled me in.

Holding out on getting MGS4? Then play the demo

Nov 7th 2008 12:03PM (Joystiq Playstation)
The incremental installation bouts and obligatory cutscene bonanzas within MGS4 are fatal for the replay value. Quick session with the mecha-bots by means of a convenient save file? 3 minute install... Chapter finished? Prepare to run the cutscene-skipping obstacle course of two to three cutscenes.

MGS4 is also way too short, plus the cutscenes aren't that great -- they have lighting issues, which casts a grid-like structure on the screen.
