Portal 2 on PS3: How to redeem the free Steam copy for your PC
Apr 19th 2011 11:29PM (Joystiq)You need to run the game on PS3 and link your PSN & Steam accounts first. If you try to simply redeem the PS3 code within Steam, you'll get an error.
Also, the PC copy isn't exactly "free" for what you'll get back in trade, unless you're doing something shifty. I'm sure it's better than paying $50 on Steam, though.
Portal 2 on PS3: How to redeem the free Steam copy for your PC
Apr 19th 2011 7:30PM (Joystiq)That may be incorrect.

As I understand it (and anyone who's actually done it, feel free to correct me)...
1) Link PSN account A to Steam account A using Portal 2 PS3 disc, redeem included code via Steam on PC/Mac to get PC/Mac version free
2) Link PSN account B to Steam account B, again using Portal 2 PS3 disc
3) Play co-op with Steam account A on PC/Mac, and PSN/Steam account B on PS3 with the PS3 disc

Rock Band 3 Stratocaster is a Best Buy exclusive
Dec 14th 2010 6:24PM (Joystiq)That's what this is. There are two Rock Band 3 Pro guitars. The Fender Stratocaster Squier is an actual (I'm guessing wood) stringed electric guitar with sensors in the neck, and MIDI output that the separate MIDI adapter will translate into signals so you can play Pro Guitar/Bass in the game. It's not out until March, and will be $280.
The other one is a Mad Catz MIDI guitar/controller, modelled after the Fender Mustang. I believe it's plastic, and it's red. It has nylon (?) strings to strum, and rows of buttons along the fretboard; 102 in total. It's on sale now, and about $150.
Rock Band 3 review: The only rhythm game you'll ever need
Oct 23rd 2010 9:18AM (Joystiq)Last I heard, Sony owns the IP rights to Frequency and Amplitude, which Harmonix might find troublesome these days. The PSP and DS Rock Band games have carried on in the vein of Amplitude to a degree, though obviously not so much with the dance music.
Rock Band 3 review: The only rhythm game you'll ever need
Oct 23rd 2010 9:12AM (Joystiq)It's not much of a stretch to call Rocks the 80s a cash-in, but Harmonix still developed it, with RedOctane (by then owned by Activision) publishing. Activision doesn't really make the games; the developers do. (Granted, they own many of the developers.)
Rock Band 3 review: The only rhythm game you'll ever need
Oct 23rd 2010 7:36AM (Joystiq)Complete details haven't been announced yet, but there will be an export for Rock Band 2 songs, for $10/800MSP, and it will include a "vast majority" of the songs. Similar to how the original Rock Band omitted 3 songs from its export, there'll seemingly be a few missing here as well. What we don't know is which songs will be included, whether you'll need the instruction manual code (the one you'd have used to get the 20 free tracks), whether it'll be a download or a disc rip, exactly how much hard drive space it'll take, and when it'll all happen (it was said by RB3 launch, but that's quickly approaching now).
Rock Band 3 review: The only rhythm game you'll ever need
Oct 23rd 2010 7:30AM (Joystiq)I might be wrong, but I don't think you can plug in a second pedal and use it for hi-hat (in freestyle and fills only, that is) on the original ION kit. You may be able to get a splitter if you wanted to use it as a makeshift double bass pedal. I'm pretty sure the new ION Drum Rocker Pro will have two pedal inputs (and possibly come with both a new drum pedal, and a hi-hat pedal), whenever it becomes available.

Rock Band 3 review: The only rhythm game you'll ever need
Oct 22nd 2010 3:01AM (Joystiq)You can use a second pedal, but it's not charted into the songs. Hi-hat pedal only works in freestyle modes and fills. You're still going to be hitting yellow for a closed hi-hat, and blue for open most of the time.
Meanwhile, bass drum has been charted--as it always has--to be playable with one pedal. Many of the metal songs will be under-charted on bass as a result. There's not a Guitar Hero-style Expert+ mode where they try to be as accurate as possible. You can still use two pedals if you want, and it'll recognize them both as bass hits. (You may need a splitter for older drum kits; I'm not real certain on this.)
It's one of the bigger missed opportunities in the game, in my mind. They added cymbals, yes, but they neglected the second pedal, which would have really pushed it over the edge as a great drum simulation.
On the plus side, you've got several hundred tracks in the back catalog (older RBN songs excluded) that support Pro Drums, which isn't something you can say about keys, harmonies, or the other Pro features.
